Gender Pay Gap

Gender pay reporting 2 April 2015

The Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015 brings into force s.78 of the Equality Act 2010 which includes a power to require private and voluntary sector employers with 250 or more employees to publish information on their gender pay gap. The Act specifies that the the Secretary of State must make regulations for the purpose of requiring the publication of information showing whether there are differences in the pay of males and females. These regulations must be made no later than 12 months after the passing of the Act so by 26 March 2016 large employers will need to adhere to gender pay reporting requirements.

CIPP comment The Act also states that the Secretary of State must consult such persons as they think appropriate on the details of such regulations prior to publication. The CIPP Policy Team will of course be involved in any consultation and report to members and the profession accordingly.

Consultation on closing the Gender Pay Gap 15 July 2015

A consultation has been published which seeks views on what more government can do to close the gender pay gap.

The Conservative’s manifesto made a commitment to require private and voluntary sector employers in England, Scotland and Wales with more than 250 employees, to publish the difference between the average pay of their male and female employees.

The Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015 brings into force s.78 of the Equality Act 2010 which includes the power for this requirement.

This consultation will run until 6 September 2015.

CIPP comment The Policy Team will be studying the consultation, and if appropriate will issue a survey in due course to gather members’ views.

Closing the Gender Pay Gap – CIPD and CIPP joint survey 5 August 2015

The CIPD and CIPP have joined forces to gather views from their members on the possible impact of the Government proposals aimed at closing the Gender Pay Gap.

Closing the Gender Pay Gap is a consultation being run from 14 July to 6 September 2015 by the Government Equalities Office. It follows up on the conservative Government’s manifesto commitment that require companies in the private and voluntary sector, who employ more than 250 employees, to report, no more frequently than every 12 months, gender pay information of their employees. This paper asks a number of questions with the aim of gathering views on the impact of key points of detail that need to be considered in advance of regulations being drawn up that will enable the implementation of section 78 of Equality Act 2010. In addition to a joint survey that will run from 4 August and close on 23 August two think tank meetings will be held, one in Solihull, hosted by CIPP on 24 August 2015 and one in London, hosted by CIPD on 26 August. Places will be limited so please contact Samantha Mann, CIPP Senior policy & research officer at policy to reserve a space at the earliest opportunity.
