Job Description Job Title: Laboratory Sustainability Officer Department/Division/Faculty: Property Division
Key Responsibilities 1. Property Division Laboratory Sustainability Programme • Develop a programme of activity around laboratory sustainability for the Property Division that complements activity undertaken within the Sustainability Hub and Faculty teams • Lead on small scale initiatives and projects that drive forward the laboratory sustainability agenda for services under the control of the Property Division 2. Sustainable Laboratory Blue Print • Develop a sustainable laboratory blueprint for Imperial College London in partnership with other key stakeholders that meets or exceeds best practice benchmarks. • Get support for this blueprint from the Property Division, Sustainability Strategy Committee (SSC), and Faculty Operating officers. • Work with key Property Division, Sustainability Hub and Faculty teams to deliver the sustainable laboratory blueprint. 3. LEAF and myGreenLabs: • Act as the Property Division lead for LEAF and MyGreenLabs leading on the associated activity within the schemes. • Collate key performance information from the LEAF and myGreenLabs initiatives to drive engagement and performance of the scheme, and share this regularly with stakeholders. • Work with Sustainability Hub engagement colleagues, sustainability champions and technicians across Imperial to increase take-up of the schemes. • Build and coordinate a network of peer- reviewers for certification who can enable us to scale up certification across Imperial to our goal of 100% take-up.
4. Energy Reduction and Sustainability Projects: • Collate outputs from LEAF and MyGreenLabs in order to maintain a prioritised list of energy reduction and sustainability projects within the Laboratory space. • Act as the interface between Faculty and internal the Property Division for the purposes of driving / making measurable progress forward the sustainable Laboratory agenda. 5. Technical Expertise: • Provide expert technical expertise on laboratory sustainability to Property Division, Faculty teams, and other key stakeholders. • Work to develop in house standards around laboratory sustainability for the Property Division that align with existing systems and processes 6. Data Analysis and Reporting: • Collect, analyse and report on the progress of projects associated with the Property Division laboratory sustainability programme. • Collect, analyse, and report on the progress of laboratory sustainability intiatives such as LEAF and myGreenLabs in a meaningful and engaging way. 7. Stakeholder Engagement: • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote laboratory sustainability and act as champion on behalf of the Property Division. • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with laboratory sustainability practices.

Purpose of the Post Imperial College is focused on becoming a sector leader in sustainability and ensuring key aspects of our operations meet and exceed sector wide best practice. The postholder will support the Sustainability Manager with the Laboratory related elements of the Sustainability Programme through setting up and managing a programme of works to drive forward the sustainable laboratory agenda within the Property Division and key Faculties. You will be working to develop a blueprint for Sustainable Laboratories, engaging staff through programmes such as LEAF and myGreenLabs, as well as working with the wider Property Division on projects to drive down energy use. This is a people focussed post backed up by sound scientific and engineering knowledge with the purpose of supporting key operational staff to improve Imperial’s sustainability performance along with enabling our net zero carbon target.
