Indi v idual Chartered Status is almost here

The Chartered Institute’s membership team announces details of an imminent and historically important development for CIPP members and the profession

T he CIPP’s achievement of Chartered Status in 2011 was both a huge step forward in raising the profile of our profession and a cause for great celebration. But we still had further to go; and so the CIPP board of directors put forward a proposal at the 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to introduce Individual Chartered Status (ICS) for members. The AGM vote to accept this new level of membership resulted in a requirement to make changes to the Charter. Since the Privy Council approved at the end of 2016 our application to extend the Charter, we have been developing the framework for this exciting new level of membership. What will it mean for you? As a Chartered member, you would be recognised as achieving the highest level in our profession committed to compliance and best practice within payroll and pensions administration and management. Benefits include: ● Use of the title ‘Chartered Member’ in full after your name. ● The opportunity to be recognised as achieving the highest level in our profession by demonstrating members’ individual payroll professionalism. ● Listed as a Chartered member on the CIPP’s website. ● Raising the standards of the payroll profession and its members to be on more of an equal footing with members of other chartered bodies. Chartered member status will be its own level of membership. (Existing membership types and criteria will not be affected.) This status is on application only, but you do not have to apply. Criteria Those applying for ICS must be an existing full or fellow member and hold, as a

conduct all associate, full and fellow members need to record their CPD to be able to renew their membership. This requirement is heightened for ICS members who, to retain their enhanced member profile, will need to record at least forty points’ worth of relevant CPD. The CIPP continuously spot-checks CPD activity so please take the time to log any form of learning or development on your record to ensure your membership level is maintained. CPD is a combination of approaches, ideas and techniques that will help you manage your own learning and development. As Elaine Gibson discusses in her article on page 35, CPD helps you focus on where you want to be and how you plan to get there – an investment that you make in yourself. CPD can help you keep your skills up-to-date and prepare you for greater responsibilities. It can accelerate your career development and is an important part of CIPP membership. We have recently upgraded our CPD logging process to make it quicker and easier to log CPD activities. Each activity also includes the number of points it attracts so that you can see how many you have accumulated over the year. ● Log into the members’ area of cipp.org. uk ‘My CIPP’ ● Find ‘My CPD’ on the drop-down options ● Click on the blue box ‘add a new record’ ● Complete the form, record your activity and click ‘submit’. n Contact us If you require any help with your CPD or you have any questions about ICS please email membership@cipp.org.uk or call 0121 712 1073. If you would like to discuss your CPD further, the CIPP also offers face-to-face appointments at all our events.
