GDPR opportunity ACCORDING TO the report GDPR: Getting ready for data’s new dawn (http://bit.ly/2eL4onG), published by Boyes Turner, too many human resources professionals and employers continue to view the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as a challenge rather than an opportunity. The report explores GDPR as a catalyst to transform relationships with data and the customers it relates to – delivering real competitive advantage – and contrasts this with those that are unprepared or just ‘ticking the boxes’. Sarah Williamson, partner at Boyes Turner comments: “There are real opportunities for firms to become more agile and effective in their use of consumer data. But there are also real risks that those that get it wrong will be so tied up in GDPR red tape they won’t be able to deliver their real business priorities.” Software selection guidance PROBABLY THE biggest – and potentially most risky – undertaking for any or payroll professional or human resources (HR) is the selection of new software. It is almost inevitable that they will be involved with this at some point in their career.

Selecting & Implementing HR & Payroll Software: A Practical Guide by Denis Barnard, a consultant specialising in the selection of such systems, provides crucial insight to the actions needed to minimise the risks inherent to this type of project, as well as a step-by-step blueprint of how the right result can be achieved. Written in a style aimed to demystify the relatively unknown, this ‘must have’ for the practitioner’s bookshelf is offered to CIPP members at discounted rate when entering code CIPP17 during checkout.
