You’re Selected for Financial Aid Verification. Now What? Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an essential step to receiving financial aid and scholarships. It’s what colleges and the federal government use to determine how much financial aid you’re eligible to receive. And in some cases, the U.S. Department of Education will request verification from applicants. If you’re a little confused about the verification process, here are a few steps explaining what to do and where to go for help.
DON’T PANIC
The verification process ensures that you receive all of the financial aid you are eligible for at PVAMU. Being selected for verification is not uncommon. About 30% of FAFSA’s are selected for verification each year by the Department of Education.
ACT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE
Timeliness is Key! PVAMU can not award or finalize your financial aid package until you complete verification. Make sure you check your financial aid requirements and provide all documents.
DON’T IGNORE VERIFICATION REQUESTS
The time it will take to process your verification depends on several factors, including the receipt of all required documentation. Communicating with the Office of Student Financial Aid is important. Be sure to frequently check your University email and Panthertracks.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP
If you are not sure where to start, have questions, or just want to make sure you are providing the correct documentation, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at (936) 261-1000 (option #1) or at fadmail@pvamu.edu . You may also schedule a virtual appointment to meet with one of our advisors.
