PRINCIPLES IN PRACTICE
Leather’s Role in a Circular Economy
Leather plays a significant role in the circular economy and is part of a solution to our global waste crisis. Hides are destined for the landfill as waste created by a separate industry. Over 350 million hides per year are created by the meat industry. The leather industry diverts approximately 55% of these hides… the rest end up in the landfill.
Building on its responsible role, leather has a uniquely long lifecycle; it can be repaired and repurposed or recycled at the end of its use, putting circularity at its core.
