From God’s standpoint of this transaction He communicated His life to us. They are not merely adopted children who take this new name but are actually children by God’s nature through this supernat ural birth. Our Lord, in the clearest and most forceful language possible, said to one of the finest specimens of manhood in His day, “Truly, truly I say unto thee, except a man be born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Just as physical life begins with a human birth, so it is with spiritual life. Just as the mother suffers to bring forth her child, so Christ, through His own suffering on the cross, made it possi ble for us to come into God’s eternal life. A people in Bible times made the mistake of claiming to be the chil dren of God because they were nat ural descendants of Abraham. today have fallen into the erroneous idea that because they come from a Christian environment, they too are automatically saved. Grace and salva tion do not run in the human blood stream. If the blood of the very best people living today could all be united in producing a human child, it would not make him a child of God. Nor is an individual a child of God simply because he wishes to be. It is not the r e s u l t of self-determination but rather takes the sovereign act of God. One cannot be born again very long without discovering that some thing vital and revolutionary has hap pened in his heart. Yet, we do not have to know how it is done in order to be sure of the fact. There is only one thing anyone has ever been able to do to become a child of God. That is to receive Jesus Christ into his heart by faith as personal Saviour. * * * Meekness is not weakness, but rather it is strength harnessed for service. * * * After all it's the daily grind which gives one an edge in life. * * * If God is your partner, then be sure to make your plans large in His service. 27
