by their words. In this they were fol lowing the example which He set before them. During the last passover supper, at the end of the meal, God’s Son left the table, laid aside His outer garments, put a towel around His waist to serve as an apron, poured water into a basin, and commenced to wash the feet of the dis ciples. At first Peter would not allow His Lord to do this work of a servant, but Jesus explained what an important lesson He was teaching His disciples. After He had washed and dried the feet of each disciple, the Lord Jesus put his outer gar ments back on and sat down to talk with the disciples again. He told them that His washing their feet had been to show them that they should be willing to serve others for His sake. They were not to feel that they were too good to help one another. They were constantly to show their love for Him and for. one another by their actions as well as by their words. If God’s children truly have the love that He wants them to have for one an other, they will be willing to serve one another' rather than expecting others to wait upon them. They will not »refuse to help those who have less money than they or those whose skin is a different color. They will remember that one of their Lord’s last commandments was, Love one another as I have loved you. March 28, 1954 The Guidance of the Spirit John 16:1-13 Pointers on the Lesson The lesson today continues the study of John’s view of the last week of our Lord’s ministry before His crucifixion. Our Lord is preparing His followers for the days ahead when He Himself would no longer be with them. The portion assigned for our study readily divides itself into two main divisions: A Word of Warning vv. 1-6 The Lord did not want His disciples to face the future with misconceptions. He wanted them to be on their guard lest the enemy should discourage them (v. 1). He points out that enmity towards them would manifest itself in their being cast out of the synagogues and in the seeking of their, very lives (v. 2). Verse 3 sets forth the clear demarkation between the children of God and the children of this world. The children of God know the Father and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. After all there are just two classes of people in the world; those who, know the Father and the Son, and those who do not (v. 4). With Jesus about to go away, it was necessary for Him to make sure that His followers kneyv that there are two opposing forces in the world. The Christian must declare war on the forces of evil and keep ever vigilant lest he be overcome in some unguarded moment. A Word of Comfort vv. 7-13 No matter how severe the conflict, the ’ Lord: has made provision for victory for every one of His followers. “Greater is he CONTINUED ►

. IT’S THE

A MILLION GOSPELS ISA LOT OF GOSPELS.

It would take over eight 24-hour days just to count to one million, A million Pocket Testament League Gospels laid end to end would stretch 66 miles. Stacked one on top of another, a million Gospels would reach 3.9 miles into the air—or over 13 times as high as the Empire State Building. A MILLION PEOPLE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE. A million Koreans lined up side by side would stretch from New York to Buffalo, a distance of 378 miles, and it would take you 5 days and nights to walk that line giving one Gospel to each person. Recently, Pocket Testament Gospel sound trucks and enlist-

League evangelists gave out the one millionth Gospel of John in Korea — one million Gospels to one million people! But numbers a lo n e a r e n ’t enough. It’s the individual peo ple, — each receiving a single Gospel and an evangelistic mes sage,—multiplied a million times, that make a million meaningful. By using modern methods, sending out teams of Christian workers in specially - equipped

ing the support of evangelistic- minded Christians, The Pocket Testament League has distributed 1 million Gospels in China, 1 mil lion in Formosa, 10% million Gospels and Testaments in Japan, and now 1 million in Korea. We believe that God has di rected PTL in using these meth- ods to reach millions of individ ual souls for Christ. We need your support to con tinue this work.
