Queer Grads Queer Grads is a social group for all queer- identified graduate students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Social events allow lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer grad students to get together, socialize, network, and plan other activities. Q Connect This program is designed to create spaces for LGBTQ+ and allied students to meet others in the community who have similar interests and lived experiences. Throughout September and October, new and returning students have the opportunity to come together and learn more about leadership, community building, and available resources on and off campus. PRIDE at the University of Illinois PRIDE seeks to create an inclusive, social, and active space for LGBT+ students at the University of Illinois. Its mission is to create a network of LGBT+ Illini that can both support and advocate for each other. Additionally, PRIDE serves as a facilitator for collaborations among other LGBT Resource Center-affiliated student organizations and promote LGBT- themed events in the Champaign-Urbana community.
Queer Library Alliance The Queer Library Alliance (QLA) is a group for iSchool students to explore ways that librarians and archivists can provide better service for their LGBTQ patrons. Social aspects of this group include reading recommendation parties, attending CU Pride in September, and general outings throughout the year. Professional development of our members is a critical part of QLA, as well.
Women of Pride Women of Pride is a student group made for queer women and their allies as a safe place to gather. They informally educate the campus community of cultural, political, and other social issues related to LGBTQ+ folks of all identities. Its goals fall under the mission of LGBTQ+ liberation of supporting queer folks, conducting outreach to the community, informally and formally educating the campus and community on LGBTQ+ issues and participating in solidarity movements and activism. Women’s Resources Center The mission of the Women’s Resources Center is to improve the campus climate for womxn students, which they do by developing and implementing programs that address social issues through an intersectional lens. The center works collaboratively with individuals and groups to identify personal, social, economic and political issues that adversely affect womxn, and offers support through advocacy, education, financial awards, and social action.
Rainbow International Rainbow International is an LGBTQ+ organization that aims to build a safe, respected place for queer international students, and raise awareness of LGBTQ resources on campus. The organization is primarily aimed at multicultural discussions regarding members’ queer identities and intersections with other identities with which they identify. Trans of Color Trans of Color (TOC) is a safe space for trans people of color (TPOC) to socialize and find a community on campus. TOC is a place for TPOC to socialize and discuss topics concerning shared TPOC identities with a focus on intersectionality. Meetings are meant to be fun, affirming, and low pressure.
