my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower” (Psa. 18:1, 2). There are nine “my’s” in two verses. The power of the little word “my” is that it puts me into personal rela tions with Jehovah. It claims Him as my God, just as though there were no other sinning, suffering, penitent, believing soul to put trust in the Lord God. I am to say o f the Lord, boldly, “He is my refuge,” just as though there were no other soul that needed to flee to Him for shelter ; and “my fortress” just as though there were no other soul that needed a stronghold : “He is . . . my God ; in him will I trust.” —A. T. P ierson . FEBRUARY 27 To Walk by the Rule of the Promise “ It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” (Psa. 118:8). It is a charming thought that our good God designedly gives us promises of good things that we may enjoy them twice; first by faith and then by fruition. He gives twice by giving by promise, and we also receive twice in embracing the promise by faith. . . . A las! W e are hampered by our idolatrous desire to see, and touch, and handle; we trust our senses, but have not sense enough to trust our God. . . . We hunger for proofs, tokens, and evi dences, and will not accept the divine promise as better and surer than all visible signs. FEBRUARY 28 It Pays to Wait "H e that followeth me shall not walk in darkness” (John 8:12). “The sheep follow him: for they know his voice.” “ Wait,” then, I say, and if thou wilt wait, thou shalt hear His voice. Wait, then, with pure heart, for only the pure in heart shall see G od; wait, with ears dis engaged from the world’s voices; wait as those in the presence o f God; wait in meekness, for “the meek will he guide in judgment.” What is meekness? It is com posed of two things in equal proportions —trust and surrender.
