THE K ING ’ S BUS I N E S S

Saints in Caesar’s Household (Continued from Page 59) to arouse the conscience, to awaken in” the soul a tsense of responsibility to God, to convict his audience of their sins and need of help, and then, so to arouse and stimulate the will that they are led to repentance, and persuaded to come to Christ and ac cept His salvation.” What a thrilling thought it is to a loving soul to know that, because he believes that Christ died for him, he has become an addition to the in heritance of God who thus benefits from the death of His dear Son. An in heritance grows by ever-occurring in terest, and every saint who is day by day developing in knowledge and growth is continually adding to the glory of God. But as no one can live on his capital without diminishing his heritage, he i n v e s t s in order to multiply his assets. The saint is de veloped by fellowship, by the Lord, by service. In these he finds grace upon grace and thereby becomes greater in the inheritance of God. Paul asserts: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath be fore ordained that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10). There is a plan prepared for the saints from eternity, God Himself be ing the architect. This is “the way” in which the saints should walk the larger spiritual life w h i c h Christ Jesus came to make available. “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abun dantly” (John 10:10). This was seen in operation in the earthly life, death, resurrection and ascension o f our blessed Lord Himself. Only a mind divine could have designed such a way of life for fallen humanity. It is significant that this abundant life was not actually released for the saint until the ascension. Hence, the “way” for the saint is new life through the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, followed by abundant life and works. Net Imitation The mistake is sometimes made of trying to imitate the life of our Lord before being really saved. It is God’s work to feed the hungry, heal the sick, calm the storm, raise the dead. The calling of the saint is not to perform these miracles, but to live an abundant life, a life of faith, out of which will flow good works. As God is the actual builder of this road, He has sent forth the Holy Spirit to direct one into the way. “He will guide you into all truth” said Jesus. The Holy Spirit leads the saint step by step along the road. One cannot see far ahead—but how beautiful appears the road be

The Holy Spirit not only leads us, but He is our power of propulsion. We should faint and grow weary were it not that He breathes in us, thus impart ing a dynamic which moves us on. With every step forward, every ad ditional good work performed, the saint is increasing the glory of the Father’s inheritance, and adding to the spiritual building which glorifies Him.
