comes a follower of any false religion by reading the Bible alone. Men are led astray by reading other human-made books, such as Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Scientists place this book on a level with the Bi ble. According to Mrs. Eddy’s follow ers, it has more authority than the Bible. Protestant Christianity accepts the Bible as the Word of God and the final authority on all matters of faith. 3. PROTESTANTISM CENTERS AROUND THE GOSPEL (Rom. 1:1, 3, 16). The Gospel is God’s good news con cerning the saving grace and power of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4). This is the message of all true Prot estants. Christ Jesus muk be re ceived into the soul as the Saviour and Lord of the life before eternal life is imparted. Protestantism teaches that a new birth is necessary to salvation, that salvation is not by “works of righteousness which we have done,” but is a work of God by which He grants forgiveness, eternal life, and righteousness instantly to the one who accepts Christ Jesus, puts his faith in Him, and believes fully in His suffi ciency. Protestants believe that every person needs to be saved, whether he be pope, preacher, professor, or robber. None are so bad that they may not have salvation and none are so good that they do not need it’. 4. PROTESTANTISM CENTERS AROUND A PATH OF SEPARATION (Gal. 1:4). Protestants teach that there is to be a separation between the Christian and the world, and also between the church and the state. Some religions teach that the church should rule the state. Past history reveals this to be a tragic mistake. Protestantism teaches that the ‘ Christian should like a clean life. He should be separated from sins of the flesh and of the spirit, and from all of the pleasures offered by Satan to his followers. Protestants walk among sinners in the world, but they are not to be partakers of their sins. Instead, they'are to declare the message of God’s grace wherever they go. Those who are saved by grace be lieve that they should live as nearly as possible as Jesus would have them to

MARCH 3, 1946 W H A T IS PROTESTANT CHR ISTIAN ITY? John 3:16; Romans 1:16,17 Protestantism should be what its name implies—a protest against the evils of religion that deceive''the peo ple. We should protest very vigor ously against the Bible’s being shut out of our schools. We should protest against the teaching of evolution to our c h i l d r e n . We should protest against the establishment of saloons In our residential districts and the promiscuous selling of liquor in al most every kind of store. Protestants have a positive message which should be given out with vigor. It should pro ceed from Spirit-filled hearts, minds, and lips. We have a message which transforms lives, cleans up society, condemns sin, and promotes every good. We have the message of salva tion both for 'this life and for the life to come. For These Who Have Topics 1. PROTESTANTISM CENTERS AROUND CHRIST JESUS (Col. 1:18). Protestants sing about the Lord Je sus. Their messages are concerned with His person and work. Their book is the precious Bible. Their fellow ship is in His Name. Their righteous ness is imputed through Christ. Their purpose is to be like Him and to live with Him. Their work is to tell the story of His grace, and the power of His blood. Their faith and hiope are in His Word. They love Him su premely. Their ambition is to send, through the missionaries, the story of the Saviour to the far corners of the earth. Their money is given to1-spread the Gospel of God which is the good news concerning Jesus Christ. They wear the name of Christ for they are called Christians. They are Christ* centered. 2. PROTESTANTISM CENTERS AROUND THE BIBLE (Tit. 1:9). Catholicism centers around prayer books, catechisms, and the writings of the fathers. Mormonism is built upon the Book of Mormon. Other religions have their own writings which contain the essentials of their faith and the

Perhaps a better title would be, “What Christ Means to Me.” Chris tianity is the system which centers in Christ Jesus. Christians are those who are married to Christ. They have fallen in love with Him and yielded utter obedience to Him. Christians de sire to know His will that they may do it because they love Him. Chris tians have “sold out” to the Lord Jesus to be His servants, His lovers, His messengers, and His representatives. Christ desires that His life shall be manifested in them because they have received the gift of eternal life from God the Father through the Holy Spirit when they trusted the wondrous Saviour. For Those Who Have Topics 1. CHRISTIANITY MEANS A NEW BIRTH AND A NEW NATURE (John 3:3). Many are the proofs of the presence of a new life in the soul. First, there will be a devotion to the blessed Sa viour. In the Christian’s conversation and testimony Christ will receive the credit for what He has done. He will be honored by the believer because of His infinite grace in dying for his sin. There will be a love in the heart for the Bible. The child of God will desire to learn the Father’s will in order to do it. The true Christian will want to know intimately the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There will be such a love for lost sinners that every effort will be made to lead them to Christ. There will be an affection for the people of God, who have been saved by grace. “Like loves like.’’ 2. CHRISTIANITY MEANS A NEW RELATIONSHIP TO GOD (Eph.2:13). Before we trust Christ Jesus, we are children of Satan, children of disobe dience, children of darkness, without Gdd and without hope 'in the world. When Christ is received into the heart, we are brought into God’s family. We are made His children (Gal. 3:26), We become children of light, children of the kingdom; God becomes our Father
