know that the provincial government, with its financial assistance, is supporting us in our efforts to build more housing. I would like to thank Stéphane Sarrazin for championing this project,” she said. The total investment is estimated at $7,687,500. The provincial contribution covers a large part of the costs, but the municipality will have to cover about 23 per cent of the bill, or just over $2 million. This financial sharing illustrates the importance of collaboration between different levels of government to support small municipalities in their infrastructure projects. In addition to the direct benefits of inc- reased capacity, this project will also provide indirect benefits. A modernized pumping infrastructure means better support for new construction projects, greater safety against risks related to overflows and technical breakdowns, as well as better environmental protection through more efficient wastewater management. For his part, Stéphane Sarrazin, MLA for Glengarry–Prescott–Russell, noted that this support is part of a government commit- ment to supporting the construction of new housing. “The Ford government recognizes that small municipalities like Casselman are struggling with their water and drinking water systems. By improving the network, municipalities can at the same time develop, especially in terms of housing. This is our priority,” he said. A promising future for Casselman The modernisation of the pumping station is therefore much more than a mere technical project. It represents a key step towards the future development of Casselman, ensuring the ability to support new housing, welcome new families and promote economic growth. By investing in this type of critical infras- tructure, the municipality is ensuring not only to meet the immediate needs of its population, but also to prepare for the chal- lenges of the coming decades.

The Municipality of Casselman is taking an important step in its infrastructure development with the announcement of over $5.6 million in provincial funding. This substantial amount will be invested in the modernization of the pumping plant 1, an essential element of the municipality’s wastewater network. This project is mainly aimed at increasing the capacity of the main sewage pumping station. The work includes the construction of a new electrical room, the installation of an additional pump, the installation of a bypass line, the modernization of the alum pumping system as well as the addition of a pressure line of nearly 1.9 kilometers. These technical improvements will not only increase the performance of existing facilities but also ensure greater service reliability for residents. Double capacity to support growth Once the work is completed, the station’s capacity will be doubled from 118 liters per second to 236 liters per second. This significant increase represents a major asset for Casselman, which will be able to accommodate approximately 1,844 new homes. In other words, modernisation will anticipate population growth and better meet housing and residential development needs. The project is part of a long-term vision. By doubling wastewater treatment capacity, the municipality is preparing for the next 25 years of growth while building modern facilities that meet the latest environmental and technical standards. A large-scale project The mayor of Casselman, Geneviève Lajoie, welcomed the announcement, empha- sizing the importance of this project for the future of the community. i8FBSFQSFQBSJOHGPSUIFGVUVSFOFFET of the next 25 years.
