gency arise. As I saw all of this, 1 couldn’t but wonder if we are as con cerned about the destruction of the never-dying souls represented by men and women all about us. The Lord doesn’t tax us in order to supply fire fighting paraphernalia. We are rather given the holy privilege of investing for Him that those now lost, without Christ, may be snatched from the burn ing. What more forceful words could we have than the Biblical, reminder that the wicked shall be turned into hell, where the fire never will be quenched night or day, forever and ever. In such an affluent society we be come stupefied into losing track of the fact that it is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judg ment! TRUE EDUCATION Since 1908, Biola’s thorough convic tion has been that academic excellence must be cowpled with highest spiritual standards. We would earnestly urge our students to “Get all of the education you can. Master as much in the inten sive fields of knowledge as possible. But with all of your getting, get wisdom! Remember always that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Know history and experience the history of redemption. Study geography and learn the ways to the river of life and to the city whose builder and maker is God. Study geology and plant your feet up on the Rock of Ages. Study zoology and bow in reverence before the majesty of the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Study biology and begin now the life eternal. Study botany and yield your life to the sweet influence of the Rose of Shar on and the Lily of the Valley. Study astronomy and follow the gleam of your soul’s Bright and Morning Star who is risen with healing in His wings. Study psychology and sit at the feet of Him who alone knows fully what is in man. Study law and light your torch on the flame that burned at Mount You don't test the resources of God until you try the impossible.

a system could be developed which would aim at sparing lives. Love in a plastic heartl Sometimes an institution like Biola may seem impersonal be cause of its size. Yet the school’s min istry is made up of people like your self. Standing together through Christ, we can bring new hope to spiritually- deadened hearts. It’s the love of Christ which constrains us and that love which He bestows upon us through the op eration of His Holy Spirit. The pace of life is increased so rapidly and tragically that a man doesn't have time to find out whether or not he's happy. LIFE’S OUTLOOK It was Henry Thoreau, the well- known philosopher, who) said that the way he would face a new day was to lie in bed for awhile telling himself all the good news he could possibly think about. Then he felt ready to meet whatever might come in the hours ahead. That’s one way of looking at life. Yet Scripture tells us that there is something even more wonderful than that, and that is newness of life in Christ each day with its new potential and opportunity. ADEQUATE PROTECTION Recently our local fire department held an open house. During this time, justly proud of it, they displayed all of the shiny red equipment. Hundreds of man hours in hard labor go into their dedicated efforts. This is to say nothing of the tax dollars expended for fire fighting machinery and salaries. Their avowed purpose is to save our homes, families, and businesses from possible destruction by flames. The opportunity to see this firsthand is good for us as citizens. We need to know that this protection is available should the emer- 26 While books may fill a place in your library, only the Bible can fill a place in your life.
