THE K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S DIVINE DESERTIONS God oftentimes defers to help his children until they be in extremity, till they be at their wits’ end, because he will have them live by faith and not by sight; as good Jehoshaphat, “We know not what to do, but our eyes are towards thee” (II Chron. 20:12). So St. Paul received the sentence of death in himself, that he might trust in the living God (II Cor. 1:9). This is the cause of divine desertions, why God leaves His children in desperate plunges, seeming to be an enemy to them, because He will have us live by faith; and when we live by it, then He rewards us.— Richard Sibbes. COLD, DOGMATIC D. D.’s. Sam Jones, the southern evangelist once said, “These cold, dogmatic D. D.’s will never save anyone. One of them gets up on a Sunday and practically says, ‘Here am I, Jeremiah Jones, D.D., saved by grace. If you can swim five miles through the cold sea of meta physics and theology to where I am you will be saved. If you can’t, you will be damned, and I don’t care much if you are.’ ” Give us the practial preacher who runs the life boat right out to the shore, throws a gang plank of practical illustration right down at the fellow’s feet and says, “All aboard for glory.”

Men say: “Now let us all unite, Let strife and envy cease; Away with Kings, away with Thrones, Then shall we live in peace.” Such is the trend of modern thought, Man’s first primeval plan To centralize and recognize The Brotherhood of Man. Ideal fine! and object grand! Indeed the only scheme To save Mankind from suicide And verify the dream. But will the scheme succeed and stand? Will nations all thus blend? A panacea will it prove, All wars and woes to end? World-Empire’s golden head has gone; Its silver arms have passed; Its brass and iron rule is done— The clay feet come at last. Full soon upon those feet shall fall God’s Chosen, Living Stone, Who then, as King and Priest, shall claim Earth’s universal Throne. (Selected.)
WHO GIVES THE FINANCIAL FOUNDATION? We have more respect for the avowedl exponent of Modern Liberalism, who, in open forum combats onr Faith Most Holy, than for the scholastic sneak, who complacently settles himself in the midst of an orthodox faculty, and by his position, publicly subscribes to the tents of orthodoxy; but who in the class-room drops here and there his seducing seeds of doubt. Those parents who contemplate the college or seminary for their sons and daughters, should study well the catalogue, character and profession of the faculty and those who by their means are giving the financial foundations to these institutions'of learning.—Biblical Student and Worker.
