<pp. 56- 61>
Residents Feel Their Need/Interest in Most Outdoor Facilities is Already Met/Addressed (more so than indoor facilities)
Walking/biking trails (77%, up from 69% in 2017) Outdoor open space and natural areas (59%, not tested last wave) Picnic areas and shelters (57%, up from 43% in 2017) Between 16% and 25% also express interest in: Outdoor splash pads/spray parks, game fields for soccer/lacrosse/ football, baseball/softball fields, and/or community garden plots – all of which seem to be currently meeting or exceeded levels of demand Challenge/obstacle courses, outdoor pickleball courts, or an outside refrigerated ice rink – each of which register somewhat lower demand but represent clear “gaps” or unmet needs among outdoor facilities.
Cricket fields are of interest to 8% overall (also an unmet need).
The top outdoor priorities expressed for the NPD largely focus on those that are in relatively abundant supply, such as trails, picnic areas/shelters, and open space/natural areas. Of the unmet needs, only 5% report than an outdoor obstacle course should be the top priority, followed by outdoor pickleball courts (4%). All others were mentioned less often.
