Also provided in the survey was a question gauging the community interest in specific NPD initiatives such as the addition of another indoor recreation facility, the addition of an indoor pool for varying aquatic activities, and/or buying more land for open space and recreational use. Residents were “fairly consistent in their overall support of each”:

The Park District should consider this information when undertaking an indoor needs assessment. Similarly pointed out in the previous survey and plan, there were a number of respondents who identified as “non-users” whose main reason for not participating is due to the fact they did not have children in the household. While the Park District offers services for all ages, the District should continue reviewing current offerings and finding new ways to encourage all ages to attend parks and engage in recreation. The next reason for non-use as provided by respondents in the survey was health/safety concerns due to COVID. The Park District added several questions relating to COVID in order to gauge interest and opinions from residents regarding their Park District use before, during, and after COVID. As expected, many users declined in their indoor and outdoor recreation activities (57% and 27% respectively). Conversely, looking ahead, may respondents reported to at least continue and potentially increase their current level and/or frequency of using NPD outdoor and indoor properties in the next two years (53% and 35% “more often”, respectively). Again, the Park District should capitalize on this planned increase in use offering a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities.
