2022 Community Interest and Opinion Survey

Split Halves: Support/Oppose Potential Initiatives

Willingness-to-pay questions were tested for three potential NPD initiatives (open space acquisition, recreational facility in south Naperville, new indoor pool). Half of the respondents were asked about paying higher fees, the rest about paying higher taxes.  Regardless of the “fee vs. taxes” option, roughly three-in-four residents express strongest support for an indoor pool and/or more open space acquisition.  A new recreation facility in south Naperville received nearly as much support, with roughly 2:1 favoring higher taxes or fees to cover the cost.  Please note: These questions provide a very broad sense of public support for these initiatives. Opinion will obviously shift or hold if a specific proposal should move forward (depending on specifics like project scope, location/proximity/accessibility, cost impact on typical user/resident, impact on local area, etc.).
