Maintenance Obligations

Parks and Open Space The Naperville Park District operates and maintains over 2,400 acres of land across 138* parks. Park District staff is tasked with maintaining owned and leased park acreage through mowing, prescribed burns, field establishment, waste removal, and snow removal, among other tasks, to keep parks safe, friendly, and beautiful. The Maintenance Level Guidelines Manual (Appendix L) expands upon the different maintenance modes applied to parks and the levels of care they receive. (*The Park District is awaiting conveyance of one neighborhood

parkā€”for the purposes of this plan, the park is factored into the overall total parks and acreage for the District). Due to the size of the District and number of parks and facilities, maintenance responsibilities are divided into three areas: North, Central, and South. Each maintenance area is led by a Parks Operations Manager and a skilled group of Parks Maintenance staff to ensure parks are well maintained for residents and patrons.

Indoor Facilities In addition to outdoor maintenance, staff must also allocate resources to the care of indoor facilities. These serve a variety of purposes such as providing space for administration offices, indoor programmable space, maintenance activities, etc. A complete list of these structures is contained in Appendix B. The Park District should also consider this when undertaking the indoor space needs assessment to accommodate staffing and resources required of any new buildings while maintaining the high level of service across the District, as evidenced by the Community Survey with Fort Hill Activity Center in particular.
