2023 Master Plan

Districtwide Amenities Recommendations Overview FACILITIES EXISTING NPD

PROVIDED BY OTHERS REQUIRED TO MEET NEED

Trails Met A Trails Master Plan was created in 2008 that guides the District in providing the number one requested amenity through the Community Survey. The Trails Master Plan was reviewed most recently in 2020 to identify accomplishments, remove outdated information or no longer feasible opportunities, and recommend ideas for future trail connections not included in the initial plan. Aside from Park District trails, Naperville residents have the opportunity to use shared trails by the City of Naperville, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, and Forest Preserve District of Will County as well. *Please note this figure includes City of Naperville Right of Way Sidewalks Baseball Fields 90’ 4 4 Met 79.5* - Facilities provided by others include two (2) at Neuqua Valley High School (limited use) and two (2) at Naperville North High School (limited use). The current numbers suggest that no new fields are necessary; however, the District should consider building additional fields if it wishes to reduce reliance on other entities. Adult Softball Fields 7 - Met Adult Softball fields remain met due to a decrease in interest, but the District should look into partnerships with athletic organizations should a shift in demand for this activity occur. Golf Course 2 - Met A market study was prepared in 2009 and its findings concluded the Park District did not need to construct an additional golf course. The Park District invested in and developed a Golf Master Plan and is focusing on improving both courses based on recommendations of this plan. Indoor Pool/Outdoor Pool 1 - TBD An aquatics study was performed in 2014 and determined that while outdoor pool needs are served by Centennial Beach, there was an obvious gap relative to public indoor swimming facilities. This is further exacerbated because the Park District relies on the high schools for indoor pools to program NPD activities. As anticipated in the last plan, there is a continued interest for an indoor pool that was captured in the most recent Community and Interest Opinion Survey as well as through comments received by the Park District. An indoor needs assessment will be performed by the Park District, which will determine how the Park District moves forward with this amenity. Skate Parks 3 - Met Skate Park need is fulfilled with locations at Centennial Park, Frontier Sports Complex, and Commissioners Park. Cricket 3 - Met Cricket pitches are available at both Nike Sports Complex and Commissioners Park. The Park District should monitor Cricket programming to determine whether additional pitches are needed. Synthetic Turf Fields 3 - Met As recommended in the previous plan, a synthetic turf field was added to Knoch Park in 2020, with two other synthetic turf fields available at Nike Sports Complex and Commissioners Park. There is one synthetic turf field available in each park maintenance area (North, Central, and South). Facilities/Buildings 96,349 Sq. Ft. 29,678 Sq. Ft. (126,027 Sq. Ft.) As directed by the previous plan and community survey, an indoor recreation facility was needed for the community. The Park District constructed and opened the Fort Hill Activity Center in 2016, bringing over 80,000 square feet of indoor recreation to Naperville. Per NRPA standards, the Park District remains deficient in indoor space. Given this, when performing the indoor needs assessment as directed by this plan and Strategic Plan, the District will need to identify potential locations for indoor space and to provide equitable distribution across the community.
