2023-2025 Strategic Plan Update — Summary Report
Process Summary 2022 In May of 2022, the Naperville Park District engaged the Northern Illinois University Center for Governmental Studies (NIU-CGS) to facilitate the process to create its 2023-2025 Strategic Plan. As the Naperville Park District has demonstrated over the years, strategic planning is leadership’s expression of the organization’s future vision, purpose, and priorities. The 2022 process included environmental scanning and discussion, capped by a series of leadership workshops that resulted in the development of strategic goals and focus areas. The process included broad stakeholder input via community focus groups, interviews, and community and staff surveys. Workshop participants created strategic goals centered on where the Park District wants to go as an organization and how it can positively affect the community’s quality of life in both the short and long term. As a mark of good stewardship and governance, regular executive-level strategic planning sessions are a staple of progressive organizations. This report provides a summary of the 2022 process outputs, including the strategic priority areas and goals that will shape the District’s work and activities over the next 3 years. Naperville Park District’s Mission, Vision and Core Values As part of any strategic planning process, it is important to reflect on an organization’s current mission, vision, and core values. The District’s present Mission statement was an outgrowth of the prior planning process. Since that time, the District has reflected on and revisited the supporting values that help to guide both the Mission and Vision of its work in the community. Mission We provide recreation and park experiences that promote healthy lives, healthy minds and a healthy community. Vision To be a national leader in parks and recreation providing and promoting high quality experiences and facilities at a great value to our community.
