On average, approximately 18% of the community’s total population registers for programs offered by the District. The largest age segments served are youth between the ages of birth and 17 years old, accounting for approximately 74% of all registrations. This is an increase of approximately 20% over 2015 participation numbers, due primarily to significant registration increases in large programs such as gymnastics and youth basketball. Adults age 60 and older represent 12% of all registrations, while younger adults ages 18 to 59 represent the remaining 14% of registrations. RECREATION AND LEISURE TRENDS ANALYSIS National, regional, and local trends are key in benchmarking what is offered and needs to be offered by the District. The District uses trend analyses in documents like the Master Plan and in reports such as the 2014 Aquatics Study, which are based on data from the census, participant surveys, program registrations, and focus groups. Every three to five years the Park District commissions a Community Interest and Opinion Survey. The last survey was conducted in 2017 with the goal of gathering statistical data from the community to assist the Park District in determining: 3.3  Where to invest our limited resources in regards to recreation programs, facilities and passive recreation opportunities.  Best land use and land management practices.  What programs and activities should be offered and what services should be discontinued or not offered.  Resident satisfaction with programs and services. Final results from the survey are reflective of the demographic characteristics of the community and were used in the development of several of the District’s strategic initiatives and planning documents. In 2020 a District goal was to “De velop a Plan to Address Community Indoor Space Needs and Program Capacity Issues.” To assist with developing the plan the District contracted with aQity Research & Insights, Inc. to conduct a Community Needs Assessment, measuring residents’ need or demand for specific recreational facilities, improvements and/or programs, and how well each of those needs are currently being met. In addition, aQity was contracted to work with their sub-consultant, Market &
