Recreation Programming Plan

Feasibility Advisors (MFA), to conduct a market analysis of indoor and outdoor recreation activities. The analysis conducted by MFA will share the same overall objectives as the aQity survey, to help inform the District as it monitors existing programs and facilities and plans for new ones. The MFA research will dig deeper into existing data to further understand:  Who lives in the NPD boundaries, what indoor and outdoor activities interest them, and how often do they engage;  What is the demand for these activities, yearly and seasonally;  What does lifecycle participation in these activities look like by gender;  The same questions, except lifecycle, but with gender differences for many common areas of programming interest. The Community Needs Assessment and Market Analysis project was suspended in 2020 due to COVID- 19, and is scheduled to be completed in 2022, post-pandemic. The recreation and leisure trends analysis results from the project will be used by the District to update strategic initiatives and planning documents. In addition to gathering community interest and opinion data for recreation, the Park District supports staff education on national and regional industry trends by offering funding to attend training conferences annually. This attendance provides another layer of trend research that staff can bring back and use to the Park District’s advantage to maintain its high quality facilities. It is the responsibility of staff within the Recreation Department to understand current trends and design and develop programs and services that meet the community’s needs in terms of programming; the Director of Planning and Planner are responsible for identifying trends of parks and facilities for the current and future population of the area. Recreation Programming Plan Guide: Demographic information, in addition to national, regional, and local trends will be analyzed to assist with benchmarking what is offered and needs to be offered by the District. Initiatives/Frequency:  Conduct Community Interest & Opinion Surveys – Every 3 to 5 Years - 2022  Conduct a Market Analysis of Indoor & Outdoor Recreation Activities - 2022  Provide staff with education on industry trends through attendance at national and local conferences and events. - Annually 4.0 RECREATION PROGRAM PLANNING MODEL AND FRAMEWORK Developing an effective plan for providing recreation programs and services incorporates four critical areas of consideration – assessment, constituent involvement, financing and evaluation .  The District must assess the viability of current programs, facilities, and resources, and focus on what is best for meeting the needs of the community and the organization.  Constituents must be involved in both current and future recreation program and service planning. Constituent input is essential to the overall success of the organization as it enhances processes, service offerings, and community resources.  Short and long-term financing is another essential planning consideration. An organization with well-conceived plans for capital projects, operations and financial management is more likely to remain fiscally stable and maximize alternative revenue potential.  Evaluation is a critical component to the success of an agency. Several types of evaluations can be utilized to garner constituent feedback. Without evaluations it is impossible to determine
