Playground surfaces of sand/mulch will be roto-tilled and re-graded annually to relieve compaction. The need for additional material will be reported to the Trades Manager. Rubber cushion surfaces are free of holes and tears and are secure to the base material and curbing. Fall surfaces should be free of standing water within 24 hours. Borders are well defined and intact. Repairs are made as needed. All fall surfaces and borders meet ASTM and National Playground Safety Institute standards. Spraying of insecticides or herbicides will be on a project basis only. 11.3 Natural/Organic Applications One of the NPD Core Values is: Environmental Education, Stewardship and Sustainability. As part of this Core Value, the District will be eliminating the use of Roundup around playgrounds and will be using various natural/organic products to control those weeds. Across the District we will continue to increase the applications of natural/organic fertilizers in the parks and will continue the increased usage of natural/organic broadleaf herbicides to control weeds in the turf. As noted, the District will only use a natural/organic means of weed control in and around all playgrounds. This includes the mulch area within the curb limits of the playground and a 15ft wide border around the curbs, including entrance sidewalks and mulch beds adjoining the curbs. The District has designated eight parks scattered around the City that will only have natural/organic products used for weed control and fertilizers. Any weeds in and around playgrounds and landscape beds, any broadleaf weeds growing in the turf, and any fertilizer applications on the turf or in the landscape beds will be completed with a natural/organic product. Those eight parks are: Area 1 Cress Creek Park Area 2 Kroehler Park Area 3 Knoch Park
