2023 Master Plan

Amenities Considerations/ Recommendations • As anticipated in previous plans, population growth was minimal over the last five years and will remain low due to the buildout status of this area. As such, the demand for amenities did not increase substantially. • Emphasize maintenance of existing facilities/amenities before constructing new ones. • Consider a playground at Springbrook Crossings (in Area 7) to reach underserved neighborhoods in Area 5. • Continue researching trail linkage opportunities as referenced in the Trails Master Plan or as proposals arise from residents or partnering agencies; look at the possibility of partnering with agencies for the extension of the DuPage River trail to the west from 95th Street and Segment 5. • Consider maintenance and improvements for each park based on the Service Level Guidelines outlining park maintenance standards and the Design Guidelines. Open Space Summary Neighborhood Parks and Community Parks are intended to serve the planning area versus other park types, which are aimed to serve the entire community. With this reasoning, Neighborhood Parks and Community Parks acreage is reviewed for each planning area.

Open Space Considerations/Recommendations • This Area has a surplus of total acreage and a surplus of acreage for Neighborhood Parks. • Unless a unique opportunity arises, acquiring additional acreage is not recommended, especially to reach the Community Park service level given the size of Knoch Knolls Park and DuPage River Sports Complex. • The Park District received a land donation of nearly 40 acres adjacent to Knoch Knolls Park via a gifting agreement in 2021.
