them, below them, or by their side. . . . Indeed; there is no way of commanding deference from others, like rendering deference to others; and there is no way of showing one’s superiority to others, like recognizing the superiority which is in others.—H. Clay Trumbull. TWENTY-FIFTH DAY The Christian’s Vantage Ground “For our citizenship is in heaven; from whence also we look ior the Sa viour, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Phil. 3:20, lit. trans.). Notice, please, it does not say “our citizenship is in heaven, from whence the Lord Jesus will come.” The heavenly position is the place from whence the believer‘looks. His heart is there in an ticipation, he waits from there. . . . May this hope, this blessed hope, this glorious anticipation, this wonderful prospect, this glorious certainty of our Lord’s coming glory, inspire us to true sanctification of the heart and life. —Reginald Wallis. TWENTY-SIXTH DAY * Final Victory “Fight the good fight of faith-, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called” (1 Tim. 6:12). From the battlefields of the Penin sula, a little band of veterans came forth, and they gave each a medal with the names of all their battles on one side, and bn the other side this little sentence, “I was there.” Oh, when that hour shall come, may it be a glad, glad thought to look back over the trials and sacrifices of these days and re member, “I was there, and by the help of God and the grace of Jesus, I am here.”—A, B. Simpson. “Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faith ful high priest. . . . For. in that he him self hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.” (Heb. 2:17, 18). As oft with worn and weary feet We tread earth’s rugged valley o’er, The thought is comforting and sweet— Christ trod this very path before. Our wants and weaknesses He knows, From life’s first dawning to its close. —James H. Brookes. “Gjve ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips” (Psa. 17:1). Have you e”er heard people pray something like this? “O Lord, we do thank Thee for Thy wondrous love and grace, for the way Thou dost so fully satisfy out hearts,” and then the next night, perhaps, they are off to the TWENTY-SEVENTH DAY A Faithful High Priest TWENTY-EIGHTH DAY Feigned Lips

all those vessels . . . and she poured out” (2 Ki. 4:2-5). There are some people who-are pray ing that God may fill them with His Spirit. Sometimes they get almost hys terical in their desire . . . Thank God, His Spirit remains among us, and you, yourself, are bom again of His Spirit. And if you will take what you have, and will pour it out, you will find that God ivill keep pouring in. He will never fall you. You need not wait for some great experience. Begin with what you have.—W. Y. Fullerton. What is so wonderful, so Unique in the Christian life, is that in every, believer there are such undrearped-of possibilities. On the human plane we are hopeless and helpless. Our friends assess us at our true value. They know our weaknesses, deficiencies, our limited capacity, How few are our talents, how puny our possibilities. But when a child of God steps out in faith and on God, and discovers the secret of taking Mim at His Word by faith, then a new factor is introduced which confounds all calculations and nullifies all esti mâtes.—Northcote Deck. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, a l w a y s abounding in the work of the Lord, for asmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58), The loftiest Christian hopes have close relation to the lowliest Christian duties, ahd Paul’s triumphant song ends with plain, practical, prose exhortations to steadfastness, unmovable tenacity, and abundant fruitfulness, the motive and power of which will be found in the assurance that, since there is a life beyond, all labor here, however it may fail in the eyes of men, will not be in vain.—Alexander Maciaren. TWENTY-FOURTH DAY Christian Courtesy “Let nothing be done through strife or vaingory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than them selves” (Phil. 2:3). All admit that they are bound to give deference to those who are Unmis takably their superiors; but not all are ready to admit that everybody with whom they are brought into social in tercourse or personal relations is their superior. . . . Whoever has the spirit of courtesy is sure to be forgetful of self, and thoughtful of others, in all dealings with' persons of any station or grade of the world’s classifying; above TWENTY-SECOND DAY Undreamed Possibilities ‘‘If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth” (Mk. 9:23).
