EXPLOITATION FORESTIÈRE DE RÉCUPÉRATION DANS LE BOISÉ LAROCQUE

Certains sentiers du Boisé Larocque sont fermés en raison de travaux de récupération dans les bois de la com- munauté d’Alfred. Manon Besner, directrice des parcs et loisirs d’Alfred-Plantagenet, a expliqué que les travaux de récupération sont nécessaires pour enlever les arbres endommagés ou renversés lors de la violente tempête de vent de mai de lan dernier et des tempêtes de glace et de vent qui ont frappé la région plus tôt cette année. «La superficie concernée est d’environ un hectare, soit un tiers de la plantation de pins rouges», a déclaré Mme Besner lors d’un entretien accordé le 3 août. Des coupes de récupération ont été effectuées l’année dernière et l’opération actuelle vise à achever le travail d’enlève- ment des arbres renversés et de ceux qui ont été déracinés mais qui ne sont pas encore tombés ou qui sont endommagés d’une autre manière. Ces arbres peuvent présenter un risque pour les personnes qui empruntent les sentiers de cette partie des bois pour se promener ou faire du vélo au printemps, en été et en automne, ou pour faire de la raquette ou du ski de fond en hiver.

la fin du mois d’août. Le bois récupéré sera vendu sur le marché du bois. Ott Family Logging recevra une partie des recettes et le canton utilisera sa part pour financer les futurs travaux de plantation d’arbres dans le Boisé Larocque ainsi que l’amélioration des infrastructures de loisirs locales.

A L’Orignal couple are happy to have rea- ched an understanding with Champlain Township over their concerns about the impact of a drainage improvement project on their property. “Much better now that we know the truth,” said Sandy Golding, following a late- afternoon meeting August 3 between her and her spouse, Steve MacCulloch, and Mayor /PSNBOE3JPQFMBOE SJD-FSPVY $IBNQMBJO Township drainage superintendent. The subject of the meeting was the impact that planned rehabilitation work to the Mill Creek municipal drain might have on the couple’s property located near the intersec- UJPOPG$PVOUZ3PBEBOE$BTTCVSO3PBE 5IFUPXOTIJQOFFETUPEPTPNFFYDBWBUJPO work and bank stabilization of parts of the municipal drain to ensure a free flow of storm water and also reduce the risk of slope erosion that result in blockages and cause flooding of lands alongside the municipal drainage route. Toutes les plumes d’oiseaux se trans- forment en trésors grâce à la créativité foisonnante de la native de Vankleek Hill Pierrette Borris. L’Ontarienne, qui vit maintenant à Sainte- Sophie au Québec, y élève des paons, des coqs, des pintades, des faisans, etc. Avec leurs plumes, elle réalise de véritables chefs- d’œuvre qu’elle vend durant les foires. La queue de son paon mâle, Léo, était l’une des vedettes du Festival du canard et de la plume de Saint-Isidore, où nous avons SFODPOUSÊ.NF#PSSJT À chaque année, elle reprend les plumes de Léo, ne les mélange pas et les colle avec beaucoup de soins sur trois épaisseurs afin d’obtenir une belle création. There is an assignment schedule for volunteers about horses that they are res- ponsible for feed and care. Everyone needs somewhere they can call home when they’re sick or alone with no one to care for them or who cares about them. That is the reason for Refuge: Les chevaux d’espoir, the Horses of Hope Shelter. The former farm on Pattée Road between both Hawkesbury and Champlain Township provides a home now for more than a dozen IPSTFT/ÍWF-BWJHOF BQSPGFTTJPOBMIPSTF UIFSBQJTU DSFBUFEUIFTIFMUFSBCPVUUXP years ago. Her work over the past five years as a physical therapist for horses helped fuel her desire to set up a shelter. She has seen cases where some horses were neglected or not getting the proper care and treatment needed when they were sick or hurt. She’s also seen how increasing expenses forced some former horse owners to give up their animals because they can no longer afford them.
