Why Your Support Matters Abby Hebert BA Criminal Justice ‘24 Masters of Business Administration ‘25
I came to Missouri Valley College to play volleyball and to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology in the spring of 2024, and I am now continuing my education, working toward my Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, while also working on campus as a graduate student. It is an incredible privilege to be to express my gratitude for everything your generosity makes possible. When I first came to Missouri Valley, I wasn’t from
Thanks to the opportunities I found here at Valley, I was able to explore new interests and discover new passions. Today, I’m pursuing my MBA with a focus in marketing, a field that allows me to combine creativity, communication, and strategy in ways that really inspire me. It’s because of Missouri Valley, and the people here, that I had the space and support to make that discovery and to keep growing both personally and professionally. Throughout my time at Valley, there have been people who have made a lasting impact on my
Marshall, or even from anywhere nearby. Moving away from home was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. I didn’t know what to expect, what kind of person I’d become, or how long it would take to feel like I belonged. But looking back now, I can honestly say it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Missouri Valley is, of course, an academic institution. It’s where we
journey. I especially want to thank Mrs. Brandy and Mr. Tim, who have been my home away from home. When my family was far away, they made sure I still had one right here. Their kindness and care have meant more than words can express. I also want to thank Dr. Parisi for giving me the opportunity to continue my education while gaining valuable work experience at the same time. That opportunity has not only
shaped my career goals, but it’s taught me lessons about professionalism, leadership, and balance that I will carry with me forever. MVC didn’t just give me a degree. Missouri Valley gave me room to grow, to learn about myself, to build confidence, and to become someone I’m proud of. I’ve grown here in every way imaginable, academically, personally, and emotionally.
learn, study, and prepare for the future. But to me, Missouri Valley is the people. It’s the professors who push us to think deeper, the staff members who always go the extra mile, the teammates and classmates who turn into lifelong friends, and the donors, all of you, whose generosity makes our experiences possible. When I came here, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I was excited to learn about the criminal justice system and the ways I could make a difference in people’s lives. And while that field kept me engaged and interested in the classroom, as graduation approached, I realized that my true path might look a little different.
And while I may not have grown up here physically, I truly grew up here in every other way. This is where I learned independence, resilience, and what it means to be part of something bigger than myself. Missouri Valley has shaped me into the person I am today, and for that, I will always be grateful. Your support makes stories like mine possible.
When you choose to give to Missouri Valley College, you’re not just supporting an institution,
you’re shaping lives. You’re helping students find their
passions, their confidence, and their sense of belonging. You’re helping us discover who we are and who we’re meant to become. On behalf of all the students whose lives have been changed by your generosity, thank you.
Because of your generosity, students like me are able to chase our goals without being held back by financial stress. You make it possible for us to focus on learning, growing, and building the kind of future we’ve always dreamed of. The scholarships, programs, and opportunities that exist here, they’re not just numbers or funds. They’re experiences. They’re doors opening for students who might not have had the chance otherwise.
Your belief in us, in our potential, our growth, and our future, means more than you may ever realize. Missouri Valley has many names, MVC, Valley, MoVal, but to me, Missouri Valley College will always simply be home.
