A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
We remain deeply committed to ensuring a high quality of life in Sunrise and supporting our deserving community through our low-cost fitness center and Senior Center memberships , which offer year-round activities, dedicated programs, and compassionate social services that ensure every resident feels supported and respected. Let’s not forget our outstanding and affordable Summer Camp program and Teen Center , two programs that provide hundreds of Sunrise kids with a safe and fun place to learn and grow each year. As we enter this new year, I encourage you to take full advantage of the many free and low-cost programs and benefits that our City offers to residents of all ages. These are your tax dollars at work, and we take pride in being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. Thank you for being part of what makes Sunrise such a special place. I look forward to seeing each of you at one of our awesome events or programs in 2026. Happy New Year!
As we welcome a new year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your family for a healthy, joyful, and prosperous 2026. A new year brings a renewed sense of optimism, and here in Sunrise, that optimism is fueled by the incredible spirit of togetherness that defines our wonderful community. This is as much a season of reflection as it is celebration, and I am proud of the many ways our City works to enrich the daily lives of our residents. The City is proud to support a wide range of programs, activities and special events designed to make Sunrise the vibrant, caring, and connected place we all call home; a place where you can work, live, play, eat, shop and learn! From our beloved special events, free Tunes ‘N Trucks concerts, and July 4th Celebration , which bring neighbors together with great music, food, and community pride, to our free mini-bus transportation service , which provides safe and convenient transportation for residents, Sunrise continues to invest in world-class services that make life easier and more enjoyable for everyone. Throughout the year, City employees work hard to plan an exciting calendar of hundreds of FREE family-friendly activities, including festivals, cultural programs, youth opportunities, and seasonal celebrations—all to enhance the quality of life within the City of Sunrise.

NEW School Zone Speed ENFORCEMENT Cameras
What Sunrise Families Can Expect As the program takes effect, we anticipate slower, more consistent speeds within school zones, safer crossings, and fewer traffic-related incidents. How Can You Help? Drivers can support the program by watching for school zone signs and new speed camera signs. Be mindful of the school zone flashing beacons and always slow to 15 mph when the lights are flashing. Drivers must always follow all posted speed limits and allow extra time during drop-off and pick-up so there is no temptation to speed. Finally, remind teen drivers in the household about the program and the speed limit laws in school zones. We hope that, as driving behavior improves, the number of citations will decline. Success will be measured in calmer school zones and safer trips to and from our Sunrise schools. Thank you to our residents, parents, and school partners for supporting this important safety initiative. We should all continue to consider ways to strengthen the perimeter around our schools—not with barriers, but through behavioral change. Together, we are paving the way and setting the standard for community safety. This is what makes the City of Sunrise the best place to live, work, and play.
A message from Chief of Police Daniel J. Ransone. STARTING JANUARY , the Sunrise Police Department will launch the School Zone Speed Safety Program to address speeding in school zones and enhance student safety during school hours. This initiative uses automated speed detection systems and clearly marked signage to enforce speed limits around schools, aiming to reduce traffic-related accidents and injuries. How The Program Works The School Zone Speed Safety Program deploys speed cameras in designated school zones throughout the City, which will be active throughout the day, on all regularly scheduled school days. These cameras automatically identify and document vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit when students are arriving, attending, or leaving school. Key Details for Drivers School Zone Speed Limit: 15 mph when the school beacons are flashing, or the posted limit when they are not. When Cameras Operate: On school days only, starting 30 minutes before the start of school until 30 minutes after dismissal. Times will vary by school schedule. Warning Period: For the first 30 days, violators will receive warnings instead of citations, allowing drivers to adjust their habits. Citation Amount: After the warning period, each school zone speeding violation captured by a camera will result in a $100 civil penalty.
