Services are focused on attainment and/or maintenance of self-sufficiency. Services include Information, Referral and Linkage, and Benefits and Claims Processing. The Special and Community Support Division provides information regarding available state and county social service programs. An emergency food pantry and medical equipment loan-out is available for Sunrise residents who may need temporary assistance due to loss of employment or other issues. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries for older Americans. But through practical lifestyle adjustments, evidence-based falls prevention programs, and clinical-community partnerships, the number of falls among older adults can be substantially reduced. Visits to the Pantry are limited to no more than once every three months until the crisis has passed or an alternate agency can fulfill the need. *It is by appointment only and must be arranged with the Social Worker. Prescription Discount Card Program Sunrise residents who are without health insurance, a traditional pharmacy benefit plan, or have prescriptions not covered by insurance can take advantage of this plan. The savings are approximately 20%, with no income or age requirements. Please call the Sunrise Senior Center at (954) 746-3670 or come by the Senior Center for information. 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm Free Walk-ins welcome The Life Changes Support Group, facilitated by VITAS Healthcare, is designed to help people who experience life changes related to the aging process (loss of hearing, vision, mobility or entering the retirement years, to name a few). This is a peer- support group. Property Tax Exemption Assistance Date Day Time Fee Activity # 1/23, 2/27, 3/27 F 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Free Walk-ins welcome 1/10, 3/14 SA 9:30 am – 11:30 am Free Walk-ins welcome Representatives from the Broward County Property Appraiser’s office will help taxpayers apply for homestead and other property tax exemptions, including those for seniors, widows/widowers, the disabled, and veterans. Bring a Florida Driver’s License; a Broward voter registration card; Social Security numbers of all owners; and a copy of the recorded deed or tax bill.
