PASTORAL CARE Flower’s House

Success can be measured in so many ways. It does not always have to be defined by an award, prize, or ranking. In Flower’s House, we base our success on the positive impact that we have on the school while maintaining and upholding the College values. In our case, success can be a boy having the courage to try something new, or being willing to make a plan and adapt, or to change that plan because it is what is best for the 'team'. It may be more beneficial for your dorm mates or House members than for you, but earning the respect and acknowledgement of your peers ensures that you are part of something special and the memories will be with you forever. Many exciting things happen in Flower's and they all matter. In some way, they are important to someone and so, we, as a House, will always support each other to ensure that each boy gets the opportunity to enjoy that taste of success and the feeling of 60 passionate brothers cheering them on, regardless of the outcome. For this reason, we enjoyed success in many areas this year, including the interhouse reading competition, with the highest engagement as more than 95% of our boys committed to reading and finishing a book. Our success was not just in the praise at Assembly but rather that for seven boys, it was the first book they had ever read. To see the smiles and the joy in those boys' faces and the pride in their mates who have supported them is immeasurable. Knowing that they are part of team Flower's is what it is all about. Thank you to Monique Ellis-Martin and Emma Stilwell, and to our parents for their support in updating and improving

our House library. We are the House that unashamedly crams 60 boys into a classroom to support our mates in debating, chess, or quizzes, but the success is not just in the victories of those pursuits, it is in the follow-up emails from the teachers in charge, complimenting our boys on their behaviour, sportsmanship, and culture. Our boys sat quietly, showed respect, applauded the opposition when the opposition did well, and respectfully celebrated our successes. We are ambitious and competitive but we are especially humble and that is another measure of our success in Flower's House. Success is the fact that we have 13 boys in the school choir and that Music is taken as a subject by a large number of our boys. It is important to them and brings joy, so, in the interhouse music competition, we step up as a House. We may not all be talented singers but we give our best, put our best foot forward, and stand as a community. That sends a strong message of unity as our success is measured by what we do as a collective and is based more on our attitude and the spirit in which we compete than just the event itself. The year was off to a fantastic start, with the senior boys leading early runs and athletics practices. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, our interhouse Athletics Day could not be held, so – along with the rest of the school – we lost the opportunity to compete. Much of Term 2 was dedicated to preparations for the House Music competition, with the boys working on Adele’s Rolling in the Deep . The boys did an outstanding job, putting in an exceptional performance on

This success has been achieved as a result of the culture and willingness to work hard and work together for each other, and the outcomes are a credit to all involved in Flower's House. It is a privilege to celebrate the year and what we, as a House, have achieved together, but also to acknowledge those individuals who have gained success in various areas and honour those who are leaving. Their legacy and the culture that they have created within Flower’s House have ensured that we have lived up to the College mission of Each boy at his best .
