During senior exam leave, Years 9–11 in Rolleston House showcased their artistic talents by decorating cakes with a Rolleston theme – the heavy use of food colouring was questionable, but each cake was certainly unique. The final week for seniors culminated in the House Dinner and prize- giving on Friday 27 October, to acknowledge the diverse successes and contributions of the students in Rolleston House, the Year 13 leavers, and the House staff throughout the school year. The Dining Hall, transformed into a spectacular setting by a group of creative parents, set the tone for a memorable evening. The House community came together in a good turnout, and the event served not only as a recognition of academic and co-curricular achievements but also as a social occasion to commemorate a fantastic, relatively uninterrupted, school year. As students, staff, and parents gathered, the House Dinner and prize-giving reinforced the strong sense of community and heart within Rolleston House. Penned by Max Falvey and Jack McKeown, the play unfolded as a family camping trip gone awry amid a zombie apocalypse. The cast, featuring Aaron Kwak, Harry Vaughan, Max Falvey, Mitch Brents, TJ Cathro, Carter Paul, and others, navigated the chaos with skill and humour. The auditorium transformed into a zombie-infested world, thanks to the creative involvement of Jago Wallace, Alex Johnstone, Ollie Trollip, and Dylan Jackson. The extensive cast showcased Rolleston House's tradition of the largest House cast for three consecutive years. The zombies, led by Ed Nye in a rendition of Michael Jackson's Thriller , brought the stage to life with synchronised moves. The play also incorporated the talents of Tyson Crestani, Leo Jelley, and Liam Barrett as the three trees and Garth Wynne's cameo as the announcer added an unexpected twist. Individual performances stood out, including Noah Goodfellow’s energetic portrayal of the first zombie, Dylan Jackson’s unforgettable role as the unkillable grandma, and Logan Ainsworth’s ear- piercing scream as the man on fire. The play skilfully navigated the PG criteria, incorporating elements like a well-timed ‘jump scare’. Special thanks were extended to Liam Allen, Suhyuk Jung, Leo Jelley, and Tyson Crestani for their
efforts in crafting and painting props, particularly the car. The Year 13 students expressed gratitude to everyone who supported or participated in the final House play of their college career. Leadership announcements for the upcoming year marked another highlight of Term 3. Harry Vaughan was appointed Head of Rolleston House for 2024, with Ben Beattie and Oliver Walker as Deputies, adding depth to the leadership team. In another impressive achievement, Seann Zhao was selected as the Academic Prefect, a testament to his dedication to academic excellence
over the past four years. Term 4: Culmination and celebration
Interhouse tug-of-war highlights and the House Dinner celebration marked the final term in Rolleston House. The Year 9 and 11 interhouse tug-of-war competitions were a showcase of commitment and strength as they put their bodies on the line. The Year 11s’ strategic decision to concede the first round set the stage for a dramatic comeback, securing victories in the second and third rounds against Jacobs and Condell’s, finishing in 6th place. Impressively, the Year 9 tug-of-war team dominated its competition and won every round. Congratulations.
