The second, a Transit Telescope, has a much longer, circular story. It is believed that it was originally given to Christ’s College by the Tripp family and, therefore, may have links with the telescope in the Tripp Observatory. Unfortunately, during the time that Frank Pelham Andrews (6107) was a Biology Master at College (1970–77) it was thrown out. Frank, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and who would later become a Companion of the Royal Society of New Zealand, rescued it. As Senior Scientific Officer and Education Officer at the Carter Observatory for 28 years, Frank was responsible for both mentoring and making astronomy accessible to the public. Due to the generosity of his widow, Anne Andrews, and long-time friend Simon Forsyth (8740), the telescope has found its way back to College. Jared Holt’s (10995) donation of his Head Prefect’s blazer from 1993 has filled a gap that has long been present in the Archives Clothing Collection. The blazer is a combination of a Colours blazer with the addition of a white Head

Prefect’s pocket. In 1994, at the instigation of Dr Maxwell (Max) John Rosser, a coloured Head Prefect’s Pocket was produced. In the same year, he introduced the senior blazer, Colours pockets and cultural honours ties that could be worn by a boy who was entitled to them at any year level. Archivists require ongoing training and there have been three days this year. In June, we were hosted by Lincoln University where Neeha Velagapudi, the Canterbury Museum Outreach Coordinator, taught us how to make book supports, write inviting labels, and create folders for housing odd-sized papers. More recently, we met at the Teece Museum in the Arts Centre where Lynn Campbell updated us on her specialities – paper conservation and disaster plans. Dr Jane Malthus, the Honorary Curator of Textiles at Otago Museum, provided, both visually and practically, best practice in caring for clothing. And, even more recently, Emily Fryer, a Canterbury Museum conservator,
