CULTURE Choral Music

Each week, about 100 boys attend rehearsals, and lead College in weekly services and at the Congers rehearsal with the entire school. This makes for a demanding schedule for many boys who are also leading academics and top competitive sportsmen. The diversity of members adds to the vibrant culture within the choir as we aim for excellence in all we do. In line with previous years, it is always a pleasure to

commission new works, enabling the choir to take ownership. We have successfully collaborated with Te Huaki Puanaki on two previous occasions. This time, the brief was to create a contemporary waiata, suitable to use in Chapel services and with the combined forces of the choir and kapa haka group. The presentation of E te atua tapu ( To the Almighty ) was made before the entire College. It was a powerful mihi whakatau as College was gifted the

valuable taonga for performance and worship. Both the kapa haka group and the Chapel Choir subsequently used the work in their national competitions. THE BIG SING The Big Sing competition was a significant occasion for the Chapel Choir. The choir sang E te atua

tapu , the incredibly powerful Locus Iste by Bruckner, and concluded with Regina Coeli
