HONOURS TIES Honours Ties are a means of acknowledging those Year 13 students who, over the past five years, have given exceptional commitment, service, and skill to the choral programmes within College. All awardees were members of the Chapel Choir and, in several cases, members of Schola Cantorum. Their leadership and musical ability have contributed to the work of the choir over the years as they have lead services, many have toured internationally with the choir several times and competed in several Big Sing finales at a national level. Those recognised were Matthew Brett, Edward Davidson, Tom Foster, Angus Gifford, Oliver Glossop, Eric Kuo, Alexander Law, Edward Nye, Greg Robertson, Lachie Short, and Andrew Welsh.
ADVENT AND CAROL SERVICES
by Mozart. Performing E te atua tapu was a monumental occasion for the choir, as it was the first time it had been performed for a public audience. Peter Walls, the adjudicator, praised the choir for its innovative programming and strong sense of musical understanding. In particular, he praised the Regina Coeli performance for the dynamic shading ,and the dramatic use of climatic chords in Locus Iste. While neither choir made it through to the national finale in Auckland, we were honoured to be named as one of the 12 choirs to perform in the Southern Cadenza Festival in Timaru.
No school year is without the annual Advent and Carol services. However, due to my being hospitalised, sadly the annual Advent Service was cancelled. Paul Ellis, a previous Director of Music, willingly stepped into the role of directing and leading the Carol Service from the organ and this was much appreciated. The Carol Service was hampered by the weather but a truncated version meant most of the service was completed before the rain. The Carol Service signals the end for the Year 13 choir members. Together, they have formed an effective group. Alexander Law as Head of Choir and Edward Nye and Tom Foster as Deputy Heads were highly effective, creating a tight team alongside the other Year 13 students. Director of Music Robert Aburn
