his diligent captaincy and to my assistant, Hugh, my two managers, and, of course, all the parents for their fantastic support. COLTS XI The Colts’ 2023 season was also a rollercoaster, beginning with the introduction of a new format, one- day declaration, where they secured three consecutive victories. Despite a setback, losing to Christchurch Boys’ High School and facing a weather-induced cancellation, the team rebounded with two more wins before a scheduled bye. Post-bye, the Colts struggled, concluding Term 1 in 3rd place with five wins and three losses. Term 4 mirrored the rollercoaster trend, starting with two losses but rebounding with a win in the third game. Ultimately, the team finished 5th in Term 4, tallying three wins and four losses. The Colts season extended to Hamilton for the Vettori Shield tournament, featuring eight elite

teams from across New Zealand. Despite initial losses to King's College and Westlake Boys High School, the Colts secured a crucial win against Hutt Independent Boys’ School. This positioned College 3rd in the pool, leading to a hard-fought 5th/6th final against Mount Albert Grammar, where the team ultimately placed 6th. However, the momentum took a turn in the second semester, where the team faced a series of setbacks, losing all their matches except the final one. Despite the challenges, the team finished the season on a positive note with a convincing win against Riccarton High School. This victory not only salvaged the team’s morale but also highlighted the players’ ability to bounce back when it mattered the most. Individual progress was a shining aspect of the season, with Max Lye emerging as the standout performer, showcasing significant improvement as an all-rounder. Ryan Speizer proved to be the top batter, consistently delivering impactful performances with the bat, while Manoj Solai earned the title of the team’s best bowler, taking the most wickets.
