and vice-captain Charlie Peacock showed excellent leadership and knowledge of the game throughout the season. On reflection, the cricket season for the Year 10 A team was a testament to the team’s resilience, and camaraderie, and the remarkable strides made by individual players. Despite the challenges in the latter part of the semester, the team’s strong finish serves as a promising foundation for future success. YEAR 9 TEAMS The season started with the Year 9 cricket camp at the Christ’s College Cricket Grounds. It highlighted not only the spread of talent but also the enthusiasm and love for the game. We entered two equal-strength Year 9A teams in Section 1 and a Year 9B team in Section 2. All the teams had varied success but what was more important was the growth in our teams. In Term 4, we selected a 13-strong

2024. College has made the final and is waiting to see who they will face in 2024. Thank you to Stephen Dods, Llorne Howell, Benn McBrearty, and the Friends of Cricket for all their support of the Year 9 cricketers. Thank you also to our groundsman, David Miles, who does an amazing job to ensure we have outstanding practice and playing facilities. A big thank you must also go to our coaching group – Harry Chamberlain, the specialist head coach, Ciaran Huntley, Louis Gunn, and Robert McClean – and to David Hiatt, Richard Laing, Fiona Fulton (Year 9A White), Thomas Bailey (Year 9B), Guy Ensor, and Fiona Bretherton (Year 9A Black) for helping to manage the teams and doing the scoring. Finally, to the players, thank you for all your efforts. You have been humble in victory, gracious in defeat, and demonstrated great sportsmanship. I hope you have enjoyed your season, and continue to play cricket at College and represent the Black and White and your whaˉnau with pride.

YEAR 9B The Christ’s College Year 9B season began with a group of

nervous and excited new faces to College, with friendships and bonds formed through cricket. The squad competed in the Cricket Express Year 9B competition, consisting of 35-over matches. The boys played against each team in the division at least three or four times, which helped to develop each boy’s skills during the season. Term 1 started with some heavy defeats, but soon the boys claimed great wins against the same opposition during the season. In Term 4, there was a positive win/loss record and an abandoned match, with College in control. The game of the season was against Christchurch Boys’ High School. It came down to the final over of the second to last game of the season. Chasing 177, College scored the runs needed but due to losing wickets during the grace period, the boys required a further six runs and lost

squad to represent College at the NZCT Years 9–10 national

competition. Each of the five regions hosted its own knockout competition to determine a representative for the finals in Palmerston North in March
