James Saunders, Thomas Seymour, Oscar Talbot, David Wayne, Max Wilkinson College mountain biking grew in 2023, with more than 30 students involved. Downhill mountain biking was officially added to the offering and a development group, with a focus on developing riding skills, was introduced. Interschools competition – Crocodile Park – Single Tracks Boys participated in the inter-schools cross country events held at Halswell Quarry in March. Although the event was cut short by one race because of poor weather, College was very successful, taking out the top boys

school award in this series. George Rookes won the U20 boys title for the series and was awarded the fastest male rider. Oscar Talbot won the U17 boys grade in the series. Eleven boys competed in the Skoda South Island Mountain Bike Championships at Coronet Peak in March. The event was extended by a day because of snow and rain. Boys participated in cross country, downhill and enduro events. George Rookes gained a very creditable 4th place, a fraction of a second behind 3rd place, after suffering gear failure on the last 300m of the race. Oscar Talbot won the U17 cross- country.
