College, Auckland, and featuring six independent schools. College seized the opportunity to play against schools not typically encountered, playing without the pressure of competition points. College faced Saint Kentigern College, where the opposition's physicality dominated the first half, leading to a 28–50 loss. The match against the Wellington competition winner, Scots College, featured a strong forward performance, ending in a 14–24 defeat despite College’s early 14–7 lead. The final match against King's College ended in a thrilling 20–20 draw, with both teams displaying their capabilities in an exciting contest. In summary, the 2023 rugby season posed challenges, but College’s determination, team unity, and valuable experiences will serve as a foundation for future campaigns Congratulations to the following members of the first XV who attained their Colours in 2023: Tom Thyne
of character and conviction in order to secure the win. The 2nds had an enjoyable trip to play Waimea Combined at the end of the season. In a way, it would have been great to start the season with such a trip for
wins, culminating in a trophy win in the final. This team – coached by Will Jones-Allen, Tom Burt, Hunter Wilson, and Sean McKeon, with Ali Coles as the manager – showed significant improvement throughout the season. Although not the largest team, the boys played the game at speed and displayed a deep camaraderie, similar to that of the 3rd XV.

Cochrane, for his steady and mature leadership – and crunching tackles. Thanks to Reuben, Robbie, and Ben for their dedication and prodigious combined experience and coaching skills. The boys were privileged to have such excellent coaches. Thanks as well to Dodsy for filling in as a coach when required and for his support of the 2nds. I am also grateful to Scott Burrows for dealing with injuries on the sidelines. Finally, thanks to our parents for their loyal support during the season.
U15A Manager: Arthur Wood Head Coach: Arthur Wood
Coaches: Shun Miyake, Joshua Wood Our coaching group prioritised the holistic development of players, aiming to hone their core skills and foster an environment where they could reflect on an enjoyable season and cement new friendships. We succeeded in these objectives. The team trained twice a week, focusing on refining essential skills such as running, catching, and passing. Additionally, we worked on improving breakdown and tackle techniques, devising an effective game plan that the players quickly grasped. These young men were exemplary ambassadors for their families, College, the team, and themselves. Their commitment to practices, coupled with an enthusiasm for learning and enjoyment, laid the foundation for their growth in confidence and ability, evident in their resilient on-field performances throughout challenging matches. Starting the CRFU Metro season with one loss and two wins, we navigated section one, facing notable challenges, including a one-point loss to Christchurch Boys’ High School, and commendable performances against St Bede’s College, St Andrew’s College (STAC), and St Thomas of Canterbury College. Notably, the quarter-final victory against St Bede’s College showcased the team's adaptability in adverse weather conditions. In the semi-final against STAC, the College team exhibited resilience, finishing with a commendable performance. The season culminated with the team travelling to Blenheim for the

The 3rd XV – consisting of Years 12–13 players – had a remarkable season, being unbeaten and winning the inaugural Christ’s College Rugby Team of the Year Award. They played with a carefree style of rugby that not only entertained parents and staff but also emphasised the importance of playing with friends and creating a team identity. Their deep sense of belonging and mutual support were truly remarkable. The expert coaching of Caleb Tod, a dedicated Old Boy, and Logan Ball, in his second year as manager at this level, contributed to the team’s success. The addition of Kerry Brockelbank as an assistant manager and coach further showcased the support behind this group.

2ND XV Manager: Rob Donaldson Coach: Robbie Flynn
The 2nd XV has had the benefit of our College rugby icon, Rob Donaldson, at the helm. This is Rob’s last year managing at College and he has inspired so many boys over the past 30 odd years. His quest for high standards and commitment is unique and it creates such strong groups of young men. His rapport with the boys and coaches will be a massive hole to fill in our rugby programme at Christ’s College. The 2nd XV won four games during
