This large number resulted in five Christ’s College teams that often playing against each other. Even with this limitation, the boys played with enthusiasm and made the most of an enjoyable season. The A Black team consisted of Year 13 students Henry Acton-Adams, Oscar Clay, Sean Jang, Edward Nye, Reuben Oh, and Andrew Welsh. The large number of players allowed the team to play every game, despite many other commitments and illnesses throughout the season.
The boys had played together the previous year, with each knowing their strengths and weaknesses, leading to a more streamlined game. The boys played in a challenging division, with repeated match-ups against strong teams such as St Andrew’s College. Despite the few wins, the team ultimately did not place in the 1st division. The other College teams played well, with teams placing in the 2nd division. B Blue – consisting of James Bandasak, Ollie Bloy, Eric Kuo, and Tim Tolerton – won the division, with the Green, White, and Red teams claiming 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places, respectively. This was an amazing achievement
The winter season ended with a special Parents vs Sons match day. Awards were given to Oscar Clay as the player representing College, Maddox Diver as the most improved player, and Benedykt Staples as the season MVP. With the end of 2023, many Year 13s left the teams after years of representing College. Henry Acton- Adams, Oscar Clay, Sean Jang, Eric Kuo, Edward Nye, Reuben Oh, Benedykt Staples, and Andrew Welsh have improved over the years and have always been committed and punctual. Finally, and most importantly, thank you to Ms Thomas, Ms Rutherford, and Ms Randall for being managers this year, taking the players to the venue or supervising during practice and games. Special thanks to Ms Thomas, who managed the sport in general, organising transport, the weekly games, the South Island Championships and the final Parents vs Sons matches. A special thanks to Mike Allred, our coach for the year, who not only has helped to improve the skills of everyone but also has organised the much anticipated South Island Secondary Schools Squash Championships.
