VIRTUES From the Director of Wellbeing Education

This year has continued to build on the exciting progress made in Wellbeing Education at Christ's College in the previous years. Our commitment to fostering the holistic wellbeing of our students is unwavering. Throughout 2023, there has been a seamless continuation and expansion of our targeted Wellbeing Education curriculum, designed to address the unique needs of our Years 9–13 students. To ensure our students are equipped with the necessary tools for a purposeful and resilient life, we have meticulously integrated consistent thematic elements throughout our curriculum. Our bespoke educational framework is underpinned by the pillars of character strengths,

mindfulness, social-emotional competencies, and the cultivation of a growth mindset. Each year group is also given the opportunity to delve into specific areas of focus aligned with our overarching vision. This comprehensive approach empowers our students to develop the skills and knowledge essential for leading healthy and fulfilling lives, both now and in the future. For Years 9–11 students, the MINDfit classes played a significant role in the curriculum, providing a platform to explore the concept of wellbeing and its significance in their lives. Discussions on physical fitness seamlessly transitioned into a deeper exploration of being ‘mindfit’ and how this mindset positively influences

daily life. The VIA Character Strengths’ surveys were instrumental, aiding students in understanding their unique strengths and fostering

appreciation for themselves as learners and individuals. In

subsequent years, students explored lesser-used strengths and their link to a growth mindset. In the senior years, this exploration continued, enabling students to reflect on the evolution of their strengths and how to leverage them for leadership development. Term 2 focused on mindfulness for all Year 9 classes, guided by Dr Nick Penney, a specialist in mindfulness- based cognitive therapy. Insights on overcoming life's challenges through mindfulness were well- received and we were grateful for Dr
