VIRTUES Character & Leadership, and Service

The Christ’s College framework for Character & Leadership talks about leading for the enrichment of others, to act and show a willingness to make a difference. In 2023, there has certainly been a lot of work done while keeping that mantra in mind. Whether it be through demonstrating leadership and awareness around global and local issues, participating in leadership days, or completing community service work, students across all year levels have been busy. PREFECTS The work has been led by a highly engaged group of Prefects, led by

Tom Foster (Head of Character & Leadership) and Elliott Grey (Head of Service), who have worked collaboratively across a range of causes, events, and aspects of the College programmes. The combined initiatives raised awareness of homelessness, the relief efforts around the North Island flooding, and the needs of those less fortunate than themselves. Several student-led initiatives led to some great outcomes in terms of both fundraising but also student leadership development. Continuing their work in the committee and House spaces, the

rest of the Prefect team have been invaluable in setting an example and being role models to younger students. They certainly exemplified the values and virtues we would want to see in young leaders. LEADERSHIP DAYS Following changes to our leadership programme, students were able to explore leadership and character in fresh ways, including a group of Years 11–12 students attending the iSport Leadership Day where they heard from New Zealand sports greats Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Sophie Pascoe, and Valerie Adams.
