Year 12 Gordon Liu Year 13 Michael Li Cantamath

Year 10 Ericsson Ye, JJ Wada, Josh Shannahan, Charlie de Costobadie, Michael Rankin. Paddy Newton, Marco Howe and Bill Cross. Bill Li, Yannis Zhang, and William Butler were reserves. Congratulations to Ericsson Ye, JJ Wada, Josh Shannahan, and Charlie de Costobadie for winning the Year 10 competition in 20 minutes, which was 2.5 minutes ahead of the runner- up team.

Year 10 Bill Li received a Distinction award for being top 15% in the year group. Year 11 Aaron Kwak received a Top 30 award for being in the top 30 across New Zealand in the year group. Samantha Squire HoD Mathematics and Statistics PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH College and the PE & Health, Wellbeing Department enjoyed its first full year post-Covid-19, bringing a sense of normality. However, it was also a year of transition for the department. A change of leadership, new Diploma courses, and the construction of the Upper West complex meant that there was much to focus on. In anticipation of the Cantamath competition, two in-house team competitions were held to determine who would represent College. The engagement and problem solving that occurred in the Chapman Room was exciting to see, and our senior volunteer markers cheered the teams on. In the end, several teams tied. They then moved into the second round which was an individual problem-solving competition. The students chosen to represent Christ’s College at Cantamath were: Year 9 Lucas Zhang, Connor Mackenzie, Alex Johnstone, Louis Sharr, Felix Liu, Tom Kerr, Hugh Davis, and Will Coughlan. Zac Croft, James Reed, and Sean Zhang were reserves.

University of Otago Junior Mathematics Competition

The Otago Junior Maths competition is an annual event for Years 9–11, attracting about 10,000 entries from about 250 schools each year. It is a two-part contest, with the first being an online, multiple-choice and short answer exam, and the second being a paper exam limited to the top 15% of participants from the first part. The following students were among the top in their year groups. Year 9 Lucas Zhang received a Distinction award for being top 15% in the year group.
