The Charles Upham Character Awards
Josh Shannahan Year 10 Character Award Josh brings a huge amount of zest, positive energy, and humour to everything that he does. He bravely took on a lead role in the House Play despite having little acting experience, and showed good leadership and teamwork in the large number of interhouse and school- wide activities he has participated in this year. In the sporting arena, it is not only Josh’s natural ability and skill that have seen him gain success, but also his capacity to collaborate seamlessly within a team, even with older peers. Josh clearly displays and upholds the virtues and values of Christ’s College. Thomas Visakan Year 10, Character Award Thomas has a quiet yet impactful presence, earning a great deal of respect among peers for the kindness, honesty, and social intelligence he shows towards others. His conscientious approach and enthusiasm for learning set a commendable example in the classroom. Thomas exudes wisdom
These awards celebrate character strengths in action in the classroom, around the school, and in the community. Up to two awards are made in each year group. They are named after Old Boy Charles Upham, who was awarded the Victoria Cross and Bar during World War II. Charles Upham is recognised for his strengths of humility, courage, perseverance, and leadership. To be eligible for this award, a student must have received a Character Award during the year (for students in Years 9–11), or a MANifesto Award (for students in Years 12–13).

Oliver Trollip Year 9 Character Award
Love, kindness, social intelligence, and humour are among Ollie’s top character strengths, and he has demonstrated these in everything he has done throughout his first year at College. Wherever he goes he has a genuine smile for those around him and he has engaged fully with the school community. From choir and kapa haka, to a lead role in the junior production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. , Ollie shows bravery and a willingness to stand out, all while being a good friend and dedicated student in the classroom. Ollie optimises the College virtue of respect through the integrity of his actions.
James Reed Year 9 Character Award James has clearly modelled
strengths of leadership, kindness, and a love of learning in his first year at College. Through the way he has helped other students understand and navigate things in the classroom, to always striving to do his best and learn all that he
beyond his years, displaying thoughtful perspective and
judgement. Thomas has consistently displayed these qualities, whether it be in the Chapel Choir, on the cricket pitch or around the House.
Ben Campbell Year 11 Character Award Ben’s character strengths of perseverance, teamwork, and
gratitude have clearly been evident in all that he has done this year. His love of learning and dedication are evident
