Wacher Prize for Academic Head of School The insight and thinking of Angus are at the highest level, and his academic accomplishments throughout his time at College are a testament to this. He was the top Gold Tie student in both Years 11 and 12, as well as being Excellence endorsed in all Level 2 subjects. This year he has gained the most subject prizes, having won awards for Calculus, English, Biology, and Physics. He attained Scholarship in both Biology and English last year and worked towards 12 different Scholarships this year, on top of completing six subjects. Angus gained 1st in the country in the Otago Senior Science Quiz as well as being part of the Biology Olympiad programme. His talents extend beyond the classroom to include both the Chapel Choir and Schola Cantorum. As a Prefect, he has been a strong leader of the Academic Committee. Outside school, Angus has been a member of Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury Youth Advisory Council as well as an active participant in the 15 March Maths and English Academe. He has also found the time to complete the Gold Duke of Edinburgh. Unsurprisingly, his top character strengths are perseverance and love of learning. With his work ethic, intelligence, and strength of character, Angus is well placed to succeed at university as he pursues a career in medicine. We wish him all the best for the future.
Head Prefect’s Prize and Ormsby Memorial Medal Our Head Prefect, Ed, has been an exceptional leader this year and someone who has set a fine example for aspiring leaders at College. He is the quintessential all-rounder and has managed to achieve excellence in his academic work, choir, drama, and sport. He has a Gold Tie, gold buttons, shining lead performances on stage, a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well as stellar results in volleyball and basketball. wIt is remarkable that he has managed to achieve all this and still lead the school. Yet, despite the sparkling accolades, there is nothing flashy or self-serving about Ed. He is humble, self-effacing, sincere, and genuine, intent on serving the needs of others rather than his own. In doing so, he has set the benchmark for servant leadership at College. He has also provided service to the community and to his House. The boys will remember him for being approachable, friendly, and empathetic; and we will all remember his wise and profound messages in assemblies. He has been instrumental in advancing student voice and student initiative at College. Ed makes it look easy, but his leadership role has been demanding and busy, especially in leading the Prefect team and acting as a role model at all times. As Head Prefect he has shown courage and resilience, confidence and humility, great interpersonal skills, a disposition to serve and, clearly, the capacity to lead. We thank Ed for all he has done for us and wish him the very best for his future.
standard is underpinned by a thoughtful and considered
engagement with demanding content. As a strong Humanities scholar, he has been described as an “incredibly genuine, hardworking, and dedicated
student, consistently showing remarkable skills”. As you have
already heard, Lachie’s phenomenal results have been achieved in the context of a busy leadership role. Furthermore, he has been an active participant in the wider life of the school. His sharp mind was an asset to the school debating programme and talents in music have made him a valuable member of the Chapel Choir. Lachie has shown an incredible focus and resolve in his studies, and his critical thinking will serve him well as he pursues a double degree in Law and Arts at the University of Auckland. We wish him all the best for university and beyond.
