PASTORAL CARE Condell’s House
the year groups, as well as adding another layer of pastoral support for students while getting to know them as individuals. This year, we farewell Sam Squire and Paul McCarthy and thank both for their contributions to Condell’s House. HOUSE EVENTS REACTION House Plays Festival Our House Play – chosen and directed by Nick Sharr and Noah Yee – was a great piece of drama, showing insight into the somewhat confused workings of a teenage boy’s mind. Congratulations to all those students involved in the 2023 House Play. Nick Sharr and Noah Yee won Director's Awards while Angus Vincent and Max Topham won Actor Awards. It was lovely to see their hard work and talent acknowledged. Condell's House was 2nd overall with It's All in Your Head , written by Frannie Dove. The play starred Oscar Compton-Moen, Felipe Felitti-Duter, James Anderson, Max Topham, Angus Vincent, Charlie Doutch, Matthew Brett, Alan Viles, Tom Rawstron, and Louis Sharr. These students gave up their free time and weekends to rehearse but also had a lot of fun in the process while stepping out of their comfort zones and making friends across the year groups. They represented the House brilliantly on the night, with an engaging and entertaining performance. House Music Condell’s House won House Music overall. The boys had so much fun and it was wonderful to see the positive support and encouragement that they gave to our small group ensemble and instrumental group, as well as to Kennedy Xiao during his band performance when the
judges were deliberating. While they celebrated loudly, you could have heard a pin drop when the boys were performing. This truly demonstrated House spirit, friendships, and, of course, their moment on the stage as a House after weeks of preparation, which, although nerve- racking for some, was a great show of teamwork, fun, and energy led by our conductor, Harry Campbell. They demonstrated phenomenal talent and confidence by performing at a venue like the Town Hall. House spirit and a sense of fun were particularly evident with the House choir’s rendition of SOS by Abba. Congratulations (and thank you for entertaining us and sharing your musical ability) to our performers on the evening. Backing Harry Campbell – Conductor
Housemaster: Alex Robertson Deputy Housemaster/Mentor: Olivia Austin Mentors: Matt Cortesi, Kirsty Howatson, Paul McCarthy (part year), Sam Squire, Jennifer Thomas Head of House: Nate Ovendale Deputy Head of House: George Pearse Condell’s House has had much to celebrate in 2023, particularly those events where boys have been able to work together across year groups as a team. Whether winning these events or not, the camaraderie and fun, as well as learning from each other, are what boys often mention as the most enjoyable experiences. Some students have also stepped up to lead House events this year, underscoring that sense of community and support that Nate Ovendale has driven in his role as Head of House. We expect and encourage that the House is a place where all students feel welcome, supported, and able to contribute. House team members Olivia Austin, Jennifer Thomas, Kirsty Howatson, Matt Cortesi, Sam Squire, and Paul McCarthy (before his departure to Ellesmere College) have all worked hard to create mentor groups that further develop the relationships across
