moot of ‘This house would ban AI writing tools (such as Chat GPT) in secondary schools’ and then in the next negating the moot ‘This house would ban zoos’. Although they did not move through to the third round, they enjoyed honing their skills. We look forward to their continued participation in debating. House Chess Sean Jang, Sam Cross, Bill Cross, and Nico Blundell scored a victory, winning three of four boards. This advanced the team to the next round. A slightly changed team of Sean Jang, Sam Cross, Jack Hastie, and Nico Blundell played a strong Somes team and despite the best efforts, Condell's lost, 0–4. House Shoot Condell’s joined the House shoot for the first time in a few years. Well done to Harry Penn and Will Matheson for taking the time to travel to Waihora after school and getting involved in that competition. Hopefully, we can gather a full team next year. House Touch The junior team reached the second round comfortably before being knocked out of the competition by Harper House. LEADERSHIP Nate Ovendale deserves much credit for leading Condell’s House in a considerate, inclusive, and humorous way. Through his exuberant character, Nate sets a good example in terms of finding a work-life balance. He has also motivated and encouraged the younger students to get involved and has done this in a supportive manner while personally being busy with Big Band, 1st XI hockey, cricket, and, of course, study. Thank you Nate. Thank you also to George Pearse, who has been Deputy Head of House this year and a great support to Nate when organising larger events such as swimming, athletics, the service walk, and the House raffle. In 2024, our Head of House will be Nick Sharr, with Noah Yee as his Deputy. Welook forward to their
HOUSE SPORT Athletics Athletics was unfortunately cancelled because of the inclement weather this year, much to the disappointment of the House, with boys keen to get involved in the first whole House event of the year. The following boys also competed in the 3000m races for their age groups: Jack Hastie, Richard Brown, Jack Hansen-Ratter, Benji Johnson, and Kiniwai Morgan. Caden Yee and Nicholas Sharr represented Condell’s House in the 3000m walk. Swimming The House relay teams had great fun and it was appreciated that students were prepared to give up their time to compete in perhaps just one race. Well done to those boys who got through to the swimming championship finals: Harry Reekie, Matthew Vance, Benji Johnson, Louis Sharr, Toby Sharr, Charlie Doutch, Jack Hastie, and Matty Hickman. Ki o Rahi The junior team won the Ki o Rahi competition. The team included Felipe Feliti-Duter, Niko Blundell, James Hunter, Sammy O’Connell,
Alex Aitken, Toby Sharr, Louis Sharr, Benji Johnson, and Kiniwai Morgan. Golf In golf, junior students led the way, with James Hunter, Louis Sharr, and James Anderson taking part. Senior Volleyball In the first game, after making steady progress through the first set against Harper, Matty Brett’s serves pushed Condell’s over to 25. The second set saw a stronger lead from Condell’s, before Matthew was again able to get the win with accurate, well-placed serves. However, the team lost in the second round. Senior Cricket House cricket and the first game had a good turnout – thanks to Jacob Onions for his organisation. Despite a loss to Jacobs House, it was a fun lunchtime in the sun for the team and supporters. House Badminton The junior team made it to the final, before losing to Julius. Well done to Simon Lai, Nico Blundell, and Felix Liu. Junior House Debate Daniel Stockton, Bill Cross, James Anderson and Jack Hastie. In the first debate, they were affirming the
