King's Business - 1915-03

BUSINESS Manoah what His name was replied, “It is Wonderful.” Our Authorized Version makes Him say, “It is Secret,” but the Re vised Version accurately translates the He brew word “Wonderful.” The root of this word is precisely the same as that of the word which is translated “Wonderful” in Isaiah 9 :6, where we are told of the coming Child "that is to be born, that His name shall be called “Wonderful.” So it is perfectly clear that the “Angel of Jehovah” who ap peared unto Manoah and whose name was “Wonderful” was the same person who be came incarnate in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, whose name is also “Wonderful.” In Malachi 3:1, we have a prophecy of the coming of our Lord Jesus and here He is called “The Messenger of the Covenant." But the Hebrew word translated “Messen ger” is the word ordinarily translated “Angel.” The person who became incar nate in Jesus of Nazareth was Jehovah, and this Jehovah appeared in visible form from time to time before His permanent incarna tion in Jesus of Nazareth. Because Abraham had seen “The Angel of Jehovah” he had seen our Lord Jesus Himself, and so our Lord Jesus could say of him, “Abraham re joiced to see my day and he saw it and was glad.”—John 8:56. IS BEST His way is best. I may not know the reason Of the darkness I am passing through: But this I know, that every testing season He makes a blessing, if to Him I am true And so I rest. His way is best. When I shall cross the river, And see my King, my Saviour, face to face, I’ll praise His name foreVer and forever, For all the way He led, for all the grace With which he blessed.

260 THE KING’) life,” etc. Further on, one of the three is called “The LORD” (i. e., Jehovah, see A. R. V., v. 13). So it is evident that one of the three that stood by Abraham clearly identifies himself with Jehovah. In the 19th chapter, verse 1, only two of the three go to Sodom, one has remained behind—two have gone on. Who the one was who re mained behind appears from the 17th and 20th verses of the 18th chapter. In both of these verses we are told, “The LORD (i. e., Jehovah) said,” and what He is recorded as saying only Jehovah could say, so evi dently one of the three that appeared was Jehovah Himself in human form. In verse 22 we read, “Abraham stood yet before the LORD (i. e., Jehovah),” so it is clear again that the one who remained behind was Je hovah manifested in the form of a man. This is clear again from verse 33 where we are told “The LORD’’ (i. e., Jehovah) went His way as soon as He had left commun ing with Abraham.” In all these passages, “the Angel of Jehovah” is clearly identified with Jehovah Himself, a visible manifesta tion of Jehovah. Now this, of course, is precisely what our Lord Jesus is. To re move all possibility of doubt in the matter in Judges 13:18, R. V., we are told that the “Angel of the LORD” when asked by HIS WAY His Way Is Best How long I spent in learning ’Twas only for my highest good He plan ned, \nd all the while His loving heart was yearning That He might lead me gently by the hand,

And end unrest. His. way is best. I cease from needless scheming,

And leave the ruling of my life to Him. All will be well, though now all wrong ’tis seeming, And will be clear what now to me is dim, So I am blest.

His way is best, His way is best. —Herald of Gospel Liberty.
