Library Handbook 2024

– Returning Students are responsible for returning books to the Circulation Desk during open hours or to the book drop when the Lower Level is closed. If books are left anywhere except these two locations and a late service charge is incurred, the charge will stand and must be paid. – Holds If a student wants to check a book out but it is already checked out by another student, a hold may be placed on that item online after creating a Destiny Library Manager patron account. An email notification will be sent when the book is returned and the book will be held at the circulation desk for 24 hours. – Renewal A book may be renewed for an additional week if another student has not put a hold on it. Students may create a patron account in Destiny Library Manager to log in and renew books online, or they may bring them in to the circulation desk for a member of the Library Team to renew them. – Overdue Books Books kept beyond their due date incur a late service charge of 10¢ per day after a grace period of 24 hours. Once an item reaches overdue status in Destiny Library Manager, it must be brought to the Circulation Desk for late service charge payment. Late service charges are payable in cash. Renewal is possible after the charge is paid if there is no hold on the book. Students who have an unpaid service charge balance in their Destiny Library Manager patron account lose check-out privileges until the balance is paid. – Notices Overdue and patron service charge notices are sent by the Library Director as a courtesy to students at 1, 9, and 21 days late or unpaid. Non-receipt of an email notice does not exempt students from charges. Students who do not respond to notices are entered into a system of accountability with the Library Director and Finance Team. – Loss or Damage If a book is lost or damaged, the student is responsible to pay the amount needed to replace the item. If the student chooses to replace the book, it is that student’s responsibility to get information about the book, order the book, and deliver the book to the Library and Study Center. If the student chooses not to buy another book, they will be responsible to pay the current cost of replacement of the book to the Library Director and Finance Team. Reserve Books – Location Required reading for Bible Institute courses are put on Reserve by faculty and housed on the bookcase behind the Circulation Desk. The Library Team distributes these books to students upon request. – Online Search Reserve books are searchable in either Destiny Library Manager or using the EBSCO Discovery Service. See the Online Resources section for details. – Use Students sign Reserve books out on the sign-out clipboard on the Circulation Desk and return them to the Library Team member on duty when finished. Reserve books are read in the Lower Level only and may not be taken out of the Library and Study Center building. These books are not available for hold or checkout. – Special Demand The Library and Study Center may exercise the right to recall any book at any time if it is in great demand for a course of study. At these times, the sign-out period for Reserve books will be restricted to accommodate every student who needs them. Reference Books – Location The Reference section is located across the back wall of the stacks room. The letter “R” above the call number on the spine label indicates their Reference book status.
