2020 Benefits Guide

Open Arms is MAA’s corporate charity and truly the heart of the company. Established in 1994, Open Arms helps those dealing with medical crisis by bringing together what MAA does best — providing homes and taking care of people. Open Arms offers fully-furnished, two-bedroom apartments with utilities, free of charge to people who must travel away from their own home for medical care. Depending on availability, guests can stay in the home for up to two years if they meet minimum requirements and are actively receiving treatment during that time. It not only helps relieve the financial stress of maintaining a second home near the medical facility but allows family, friends and caretakers to stay with them in their time of need. MAA donates the majority of rents for the 53 Open Arms homes, but it is the fundraisers and payroll deductions from MAA associates that pay to fully furnish and refurbish the apartments, provide utilities, cable and internet access, and cover the remainder of the rent for the Open Arms homes. Since inception, Open Arms has offered over 222,084 nights of rest to approximately 2,942 families in need. Every dollar raised gets us closer to helping another family. Please consider Open Arms in your charitable giving by signing up for or increasing your payroll deduction during Open Enrollment or at any time during the year through your Benefits worklet in Workday. Open Arms is a 501(c)(3) charity and your donations are tax deductible.
